Desktop app choose soundcard

I have a suggestion for the Windows desktop app: add a feature that lets users choose which soundcard they want to use.



The main use case for this is that you can have multiple sound devices connected to a computer. The default device might be a speaker in the computer itself. Another device might be a soundcard connected to a hifi system. There might be other devices connected to the computer by bluetooth or USB and so on. Often the default device in a computer is not designed to be high quality because it is more intended just for the clicks and other sounds that come from Windows itself.



Deezer is a music app and aims to deliver a hifi experience. Like me, I expect lots of other music fans have invested perhaps lots of money in their equipment, including the soundcard. We want to ensure the sound quality is maintained and therefore we want to use our choice of high quality soundcard. I have an M-Audio USB-connected soundcard that gives me both digital and high quality analogue outs.



There is a huge number of soundcards out there that all work on Windows, but it is not like the app needs to support each one. For the vast majority of soundcards, Windows itself takes care of that, as long as the app allows the user to choose which soundcard to send the audio to. Imagine an app that plays video content; it's a bit like connecting a second monitor screen and wanting to display the video content on that screen but leaving the standard Windows display on its usual screen.



Dare I say, the Tidal desktop app lets me choose the soundcard and I don't want to switch to Deezer unless it will also do this. Even good old Winamp lets me choose which sound device to use.



As a developer myself, I am confident that to do this only involves querying Windows for the list of available sound devices, then presenting these in a combobox. Obviously the setting needs to be stored somewhere for the app to use each time.
