Hi! Several people have already mentioned that the A-Z sorting in playlists is gone, which I'm absolutely shocked at. But I've also noticed, my downloaded music tab -which is the one I always use to access my library- is all wrong? Playlists and albums are all listed in a random order, and I have no option to sort them differently. Basically, if I wanna find anything, I can only scroll until I see it.

You also used to be able to pick how your library would look (big icons VS smaller ones), that is also gone. Basically the tab looks like shit and is unusable. Is this also part of the update? Or is my app messed-up? I'm on Android with the latest update

This just happened to me this morning. I reached out to Deezer to ask wtf and this was their response.

Deezer is always looking for ways to make your music experience better, faster and more seamless.
To achieve this, with the launch of the most recent version for Android 8.0.27, we have made a technical change by removing the A-Z sorting feature.
This decision was made to prioritize speed and improve how quickly your Playlists and Favourite tracks load. We understand this may feel like a change to how you organize your music, but our focus is on delivering a faster, more intuitive experience so you can spend more time enjoying your favourite tunes.

IDK who thought this was a good idea but this change is terrible.

I thought this was a bug at first so I reached out to support and they replied with this.

Bull. Shit. Nothing about this change makes anything “faster” or “more intuitive”.

I have NOT had any problem with speed or performance on my last 3 android devices that I have used Deezer on. Certainly not with my latest, high performance phone. I do wonder whether older phones may not perform as well? Either way, Deezer should, in that case, release different versions for OS vs older ones?

I am very disappointed.

Wow. Agreed. This update does the exact opposite of making our experience “faster and more intuitive” tbh. I've seen several people complaining and I really hope they take it into account bc I don't even want to use the app anymore.

I've been a loyal paying member since 2013. I'm getting sick & tired of irrational changes. Fix your shit now (this really is an issue for me) or I'm going to migrate to SoundCloud....

I hate this so much, worst update ever. How am I supposed to know when I added something to a playlist!? Also I like to have proper oversight on things, this entire jumble of songs is giving me so much anxiety. Very much considering swapping to a different streaming service.

I have an android phone. The only playlist I ever had any loading issues with is my Favourites playlist, which is 5000+ songs, so makes sense it would take 5-10 extra seconds to load!!

I am a software developer. The idea that removing a sorting facility could make anything noticeably faster is ludicrous, unless it is implemented in a really stupid way. The sort only needs to be done once at the point that the user requests it and can be done efficiently. Once the list is sorted, there should be no ongoing performance impact. These responses from Deezer implying that there is some "technical" reason don't make sense. There is something else going on here and they are not giving the full story.

Hi all, I have good news for you. The A-Z sorting feature, which was removed to improve performance, is coming back.
The team has seen all your feedback on it and decided to bring it back.
We don't have an exact date yet, but the goal is to bring it back by the end of the week.

Thanks for your patience :)

Indeed, the option to sort A-Z was removed to prioritize speed and improve how quickly playlists and favourite tracks load.

An issue that was affecting the experience on Android devices.

Deezer understands this is a big change, how you organize your music, but our focus is on delivering a faster and more intuitive experience.

You can use the search function to locate tracks inside your favourites or any playlist.

Removing functionality for speed is insane. A list loads more quickly, except it's entirely unusable. I'd rather a momentary delay in loading and have a list you can actually sort than a lengthy mess loaded quickly. Please make it make sense.

Hello @Rich68 ,

Have you updated your app to the latest version?

The sort is available in v8.0.33 that has been rolled-out last week as I mentioned.

Yes I updated before replying, now I notice that the Albums and Artists have the ability to sort a-z however not the downloaded music.

I have a family account so Albums and Artists include my kids music.

Is there anyway of sorting the downloaded music part of favourites alphabetically?

Look at the top of the Downloaded page, next to the Search field.

The sort applies for both the playlists and the albums.

On your device, can you long-press on Deezer icon and go to “App info”.

From there, go to “Storage & cache” (or similar) and select “Clear cache”.

Please let me know if this solves the issue.
