Repetitive "Shuffle my music" // keeps playing the same songs

As a paying user I expect my full list of favourites to be played completely randomly so that I can enjoy the service I'm paying for and hear all the songs I've selected.

Presumably you have a product backlog and your devs are delivering in fortnightly sprints. Can you confirm whether this user story or something like it, exists in the backlog and whether it is considered something that should be prioritised as something that diminishes your minimal viable product?

If so, it shouldn't take longer than two weeks to deploy a fix and seriously, how hard can it be to code an algorithm like this?

Hi, as explained above, this isn't something to be fixed, it's just how it works. We will keep passing the feedback on to our devs, but from my side I have no other info...

Yep, I have been having this issue for a while, I stopped using deezer for a bit as a result but thought i’d give it a go. In any playlist the first song plays fine, then no matter which song I play next, even one in a different playlist only the first track plays. In fact no other track can be played until I close the programme and restart.

Of course it's something to be fixed. Eight months of feedback in this one thread alone, and there are others with different titles that describe the same problem. It's not a random selection and that's what it's sold as. How can you be.so complacent?

I appreciate your feedback and I can confirm we are passing on to our devs - I'm sure they are taking into consideration. As explained a few times, it's just how the feature works and there is nothing I can do from here right now, but keeping passing the feedback on the right team. I'm sorry if you feel that I'm compancent, but it is what it is and I prefer not to find an excuse, but to be honest about how things works. I understand it's not how you want to be, but this doesn't change the fact that it's how this feature works. We are definitely working on an improvement, but I have don't have an ETA yet. We will keep everyone updated as soon as we have any more news. Thanks

This still happens all the time, five years later. The same songs again and again and again in the same queue. Perhaps the French are again on strike. They charge more than anyone else but work less than everyone. Quite disappointing. I wish I could get a refund.

Hi @ymns3321 @unklehomer sorry about that. So you basically get the same selection of songs every time you use the the "shuffle my music". Was this different before? Have you noticed a change in behaviour? Which devices are you using and which version of Deezer do you have installed? I will need more info to be able to pass this on.

I've done some cache deletion and now once I push through the same selection of songs it starts to work properly and get properly random. Since then I seem to get those songs shown above still smattered thorugh he first 20, but new stuff also creeping in. So its fading, but still not totally random.

Originally if I kept listening the same songs started to repeat.

I'm on the latest OS for a samsung s7, v6.0.8.1 of deezer. I've only jsut started using shuffle, and it seems I got stuck with my first shuffle for a couple of weeks.

I was shuffling the nice Caribou 1000 playlist below and a couple of times the same tune would come up.

May be the algorithm could actually randomize the 999, 998, 997, etc remaining songs instead of shuffling the 1000 again and again.

It seems like it was fixed in 6.0.10.146!
Testing for two days now and every time i hit "shuffle my music" it starts playing different songs.

This is awesome, thanks Deezer team!

Hello @Jaime. Could you please be specific? What is it about these 2 new Flow modes that you expect to fix the problem I described? I’ve already said that I get a mix of favorites and non-favorites. It’s not the mix of these 2 sets that’s the problem. The problem is only the same tiny selection of songs are played all the time.

Hi @ymns3321 could you try to clear the cache? This used to be an issue, but users did not complain about this anymore.

Please can you explain:
1. How "shuffle my music" works
2. Why you refuse to acknowledge that shuffle music doesn't work as expected (randon)
3. Why you refuse to do anything about this fundamental flaw in the app that would be incredibly easy to fix.

I can write the query here for you:
SELECT song FROM user.favorite_tracks ORDER BY random();

Seriously. I have 1000+ favorite tracks. When i shuffle my music the same 50 or so tracks play EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Countless people clearly have the same problem. Yet you refuse to acknowledge it and offer pathetic platitudes and useless solutions instead.

HI @Uhland sorry for the late reply. Have you tried to clear the cache? We used to have other users complaining about this, but it was supposed to be fixed. Which version of the app do you have installed?
Hello, I am on the latest version on a huawei p30 pro the the queue is exactly the same. I had to clear the cache, force the app to close and turn off my phone to get a new queue. but then, the new queue is repeating itself

for a "random" option, it is quite frustrating

HI @ymns3321 thanks for getting back to me. Just to clarify: You say the first batch is always the same, but then you also say you don't notice any problem with the first selection as it plays tracks randomly just like you expect it.

I am struggeling to understand as it seems a contradiction. I understand the first batch is always the same songs more or less, but plays them in different order every time?

Day after day my Flow repeats the same songs with the same algorithm = (one favorite (from dozens) of one band + one random song) + (one favorite (from dozens) of another band + one random song) + …. The most what is annoying is that the favorite songs repeats from day to day. I have hundreds of favorite songs, but hear the same too often?

Hi,

"Shuffle my music" keeps shuffling the same queue of 20-30 songs and changing the queue source occasionally, but not every time i hit the button. It can be the same queue for days. Is there any workaround for this besides trying to clean app cache?
