I used to use FLOW all the time, but it played the same music over and over, sometimes one song would play twice in 15 minutes. When I recently discovered "Shuffle My Music" I was happy because I could see what was going to be played and it wouldn't repeat anything (at least not for the 50 songs of the playlist). However, "Shuffle My Music" still suffers from issues FLOW had, namely only playing one or two specific songs from favourite artists and playing the same songs every time. If I pressed "Shuffle My Music" multiple times you can be sure that 80% of the songs in any playlist would be in every other playlist.

So, my question: how do I fix My Music? How do I get FLOW or "Shuffle My Music" to have variety? How do I get more than one song from an artist (no matter how many albums and songs they may have) to play?
When ever I close the app I go back to a new shuffle when I reopen it . This means I seem to hear the same songs too often which is getting tiresome. There are other apps that allow you to continue where you left off , closed app or not . Also the same between devices allowing you to seemlessly contine with the same song on your other device and not repeating over and over again the same selection . I have about 1300 songs to listen too on my playlist that I shuffle but it seems to shuffle the same ones . I reckon I here only about 20% of the songs as I close the app when I’m done or at least I forget to leave it on as it’s so easy to swipe it away .

The app in question is not Apple Music .
Hello there.

Currently I am looking forward to move to Deezer from other streaming service and there are a few things that concerns me:

  1. When I hit Shuffle my music button the first song is always the same for some reason
  2. After shuffling my music there are some tracks that I don't know, and which are not in my library - I have turned off "Automated recommendations"
  3. When I turn on web app the default playlist is some garbage which I completely don't know

@Patryk Pozniak very similar to the issues mentioned here, check the answers above 🙂
Well main problem with Spotify is that shuffle gives me always the same songs. If yours shuffle is no different I have nothing to look at here sadly.

I've done some testing and

  1. My first song after shuffle is always the same (happens to be an iron man)
  2. It shuffles the same songs everytime, just in different positions.

Well, is it so freaking hard to find a streaming service that has a decent shuffle. Is making songs in random order really so hard. What the hell
Hi @Patryk Pozniak so sorry you are not happy with this. Our developers are working on this part at the moment, but we do not know when the changes will be live, but hopefully soon and we can win you back 😉

Okay. I'll give you a chance. If everything will be fixed let me know and I'll give it a try 🙂
@Aidanm123 sounds exactly like this issue here... keep an eye on this thread for updates on this 🙂
Hi there - same problem. Happens on the android app and on a media box that we play through the TV. Family subscription. Many albums and artists liked. Startef our playing a wide variety of songs. Over time the shuffle my music list got smaller and smaller. Now only 9 songs play. @deezer - just admit this feature is helluva buggy, take it down and fix it.!
Hi everyone, just checked with the devs and here's an update about this issue. At the moment "shuffle my music" is a simplifies version of the feature and it's normal that it mostly plays your popular albums and favourites. But our team is already working on a better solution for this, so that you'll see a bigger variety of tracks in the future 🙂

@reneemoodie What do you mean by 9 songs? Are there only 9 songs in the queue when you use the feature or are there 9 tracks that are always in the queue?
@Anja I just checked and it is actually 49 songs. What I mean is those same 49 songs are always there - they never change. So it's not really shuffle my music - it is endlessly play the same 49 songs. To clarify user expectation here:

  1. You have a tab called My Music, which contains all the artists and albums and playlists that I have liked.
  2. So what I thought Shuffle My Music would do was take ALL that material and shuffle it.

If it does not do that, you should call it something else. Shuffle An Odd Assortment of Songs would be a more accurate description!

Ok, got it 🙂 And yes, we are working on it. As mentioned above, it's a simplified version for now, but we're working on it. I'll let you know as soon as I have an update 🙂
Hi. Same problem here. On this weekend I've created a playlist with about 50 songs. From these songs I guess that "Shuffle My Music" played about 20 songs from the playlist on a period of two hours listening. Several songs repeated 5 to 8 times and most of songs never get played. It's clear that Deezer enters in a loop state that fails to play all the songs from a playlist.

I think that what everybody wants here (by the older posts) is a simple randomization of their playlist(s) that only starts to repeat songs after have played all the songs from the playlist. Programatically speaking it's is ridiculous easy to implement an array randomization.

It is really, really an annoying bug...

My subscription is Family and playing on an Android device. The same error is present in Deezer 0.7.3 from Windows Desktop.
@Rodrigo.Roland.Andrade hm it's working perfectly fine for me... When I shuffle a playlist, it gives me a random list of all the tracks in this playlist...

Is the latest Deezer installed on your device?

Are you trying to shuffle online or offline playlists?
Even worse for me. Not only does "shuffle my music" onyl picks 20 songs, but they're almost always the same, and they include songs which are NOT even remotely in my library.

This is really a joke..
Same problem here. Even more :(

1. The "shuffle my music" is not different from the flow. I keep getting recommandations and songs that are absolutely not in my library (unknown song/album/artist)

2. It also gives me the same tracks over and over, even after emptying the cache, deleting all the data..for some reason the random selection sticks to 10% of my tracks (and the other ones) and just never plays the rest. I found out I had albums in my favorite that have litteraly never been played in years. And I have about 50, so the chances are high all of them should have been played.

It seems like the selection takes the listening history into account, because I get songs I used to listen to a lot, but which I never included in my library.

I tried everything mentioned here, upgraded to the Beta version, even deleted ALL my library manually and restored it... no change.

This is really frustrating. I mean, I guess not everything is technically straight forward, but even basic MP3 players in the 90s were able to shuffle a list of songs. How come we cannot just get a REAL random selection of all songs included in our playlists + favorite albums ? This is basic feature.

I came to Deezer from Spotify because of some bugs on advanced features, but at least they cover the basics.. thinking about switching again now..
Same Here, Tried Desktop Client, App and website.

When I click on "Shuffle", It just plays the shuffle list without restarting it. I also tried to clear SmartCache (which is shared between the clients).

I can still shuffle my favorite songs list, better than nothing I guess

Hi there, what do you mean by "without restarting it"?

Hi there, so in your Shuffle My Music queue you can see albums/ tracks that are not even in your library? Could you maybe give me a few examples and a screenshot? Happy to check with the team
Hi Anja

more details about the problems I encounter are here : https://en.deezercommunity.com/troubleshooting-and-tips-4/repetitive-shuffle-my-music-5587/index2.html#post35549

here is a quick example. Just launched a "Shuffle my music" on the Windows 10 app (same behavior on Android) . The 3 highlighted songs are totally unknown to me and I keep getting them on shuffle !

Focusing on the second one, neither the song, nor the album nor the artist are in my library. And not in any playlist..

Thanks !

Now launching a new shuffle (I played an album and started a new shuffle), I get the next song in the queue of the previous shuffle (Bad Girlfrend by Theory of a Deadman) again !

Ha, I like that remark, you're absolutely right!

I just poked our developers again. Could you perhaps provide me with some more information on which songs are being played, when you try the feature "shuffle my music"?

Just a screenshot of the queue that is being created would be enough, thanks!
Hi @Shannon

I have given examples and screenshots on this other thread :https://en.deezercommunity.com/troubleshooting-and-tips-4/shuffle-my-music-stuck-on-the-same-50-songs-playlist-4362/index1.html#post35702

Happy to help with any other details

Thank you!

Thanks a lot for the sceenshot! 🙂 That helps a lot. I've already asked our team to look into it. I'll keep you posted about any details 🙂
I play deezer from my browser on windows 7 and get the same problems as everyone else. I have many artists favourited and like many assumed that flow would play tracks from these artists. But I just get the 'hits' only over and over again.

If I have favourited an artist or album then surely any of the tracks from this artist or album should be available to flow? For example I have blur and radiohead as favourites, both have released many albums but all I get is Parklife every now and again.

If streaming services are supposed to replace the typical music collection then they should work like the typical music collection and play album tracks not just the hits.

Maybe Deezer should consider giving the listener some options for Flow rather than making the decisions of what I want to listen to for me. For example have options on a sliding scale such as,

Play more album tracks

Play more chart music

Play more hits

Play more suggested artists not in my favourites

etc

I also find that if I play a mix from an artist page that this is also very repetitive in terms of its content. The songs are just the same 'hits' that I've heard over and over again. If I listen to a mix of a given artist I want to hear songs related to his artist that I might not have heard before. I don't want to hear the hits from similar artists that I no doubt already know. Deezer and similar services are a great opportunity for people to widen their musical knowledge but not if all they hear are the hits.

I have 190 artists as favourites, how many tracks have these 190 artists recorded between them? I don't know but I bet there's enough tracks between them for many days of uninterrupted music without any repeats. That's what flow should be.....

The fact that Flow creates the queue for you is the key feature of Flow 😉

But I get your wish for a more individual Flow, which is why we introduced the Flow cards/tabs recently. This way you can choose between different Flows based on different artists :)

If you prefer to know what is going to be played, I recommend choosing one of the many playlists you can find on Deezer (browse by genre or check out playlists on artist pages).

An artist mix will always play a mix of music, both from the artist and music from similar artists. That's very well intended :)

If you want to listen to tracks from 1 artist only, just listen to their "top tracks" (if you don't like the songs in order by popularity, just shuffle it ;)).

This is the issue this thread is about - as you can see in the comments above, we're looking into this right now. Keep updated on the issue here 🙂

Hi Shannon, I think you may have misunderstood what I was getting at about giving the listener options. For example for me I would like to hear album tracks that where never released as singles, for someone else they may not care about album tracks and only want to hear the singles or hits from their favourite artists. At the moment it seems to be that flow is very much 'hits' based. I would like to be able to say to flow play me more album tracks as well as the hits and tracks from similar artists.

Its not that I want to know what will be played, I understand that I can simply play an album or playlist if I want. I would just prefer flow to be a bit more diverse in its choices and pick from any of the tracks from artists/albums that I have as favourites. I would also prefer the tracks from other artists to be a bit more diverse as well but getting the favourited artists bit right first would be a good start.

I look forward to seeing or hearing how you get on with your changes.

By the way, its good that users can actually get responses and conversation from Deezer in the forums. There are too many support forums where users just get ignored. At least Deezer seem to be listening...

Hi there, I totally agree with you. It would be amazing if you could control Flow much more than you can now and I'm sure Shannon also agrees 🙂 What she was trying, was to give you a workaround for now to improve Flow for you. But we always pass feedback like yours on to our team. We just can't promise anything right now.

But we'll definitely keep you posted about any news and updates 🙂
