So I've been using Flow on and off for 2+ years now and it's been all over the place when recommending music. About a year and a half ago it started only recommended the same 5 bands over and over again (which I have hundreds of “tracked artists”) so I stopped my subscription.

I tried again about a year ago and saw that was improved, but what Ive noticed is that my radio often goes only into two genres and it seems to be dependent on the day of the week. And within those genres the same few artists/bands over and over again. It seems that Monday through Thursday I will basically only get instrumental rock and modern prog rock and that is it. Whether I go to favorites or discoveries. Once Friday hits, I seem to get all my various metal, electronic, and other genres in a fairly healthy mix.

And the various “moods” are basically garbage for me. Each one of them doesn't have any of my music or shows me the same few bands/artists over and over again.

I only subscribe to Deezer for Flow as my work radio and wanted to know if there are any plans to improve this behavior or get more “variety” without being a discovery for new artists? I'm getting ready to bail again getting bored of the same songs and genres over and over again. This week seems to be a bit better, but I don't want to pay for a subscription on a service that changes from day to day this dramatically.

Hi @Rudy Duke !

Yeah, I've looked at this plenty of times and tried quite a bit and nothing. And considering that the quality of my Flow changes on a daily basis (with Fridays being the best variety for some reason) I especially don't think anything in here would help. This seems to something involving Deezer’s algorithm, which is a shame because when it works, this has been my favorite internet “radio” I listen to at work.

Even the “Change the style” in the Deezer unhappy face options basically switched between two genres. Last week I hit it about 20 times in a row to get instrumental rock every single time.

@Rudy Duke

I just try help you and my opinion is

If you listen only Flow ,then is will be same music there . If you listen some other album, an artist or a track then will be, for some while your Flow change .

In Deezer  Home tab ♫ are Personlized playlist and Playlists tailored to your music taste .Try listen this for some while and add songs and artists to your Favorites . Maybe then will be your Flow better .
Every week that playlists is change in friday .

Other solution is make your playlist .

I was made many playlists and I listen what I like .Even in queue you can mix some album and playlist and random play songs (all is described in my topics ).

Interesting…. So I tested this out and on Friday, everytime it selected a specific genre too often, I chose to change the style. Now Im getting an amazing Flow after a lot of manual fiddling on Friday.

So here is the real dilemma, if Im only using Deezer for the Flow as essentially my “radio” or curated playlist, then it will inherently always fall back into this cycle unless I manually curate it for a day… So every Friday it will play a healthy selection until it plays a bit too much of one genre and become repetitive. Any way to disable this behavior or have it reset everyday? This definitely adds a lot of manual process to Flow and unfortunately Deezer will not become my day to day player due to nearly all my audio equipment not having good or any compatibility with Deezer :(

hey @Rudy Duke

i agree with @Nina Nebo ‘s suggestion that “tending” to your own library is helpful for building a good Flow.

another easy, low-maintenance suggestion I would make: start track radios from favorite songs, or even songs from a favorite artist (or one you’d like to see in your Flow). this will generate a “mini-Flow” of sorts and will also “feed” your Flow algorithm. i think you will see an improvement.

I appreciate all the information! Definitely helps out in figuring out how this Flow works.

I have recently found that flow has become fixated on Post Rock

I have some Post Rock tracks favourited but they are by far in the minority

No amount of track skipping will break this fixation and I am obliged to search for a playlist of shuffle my favourites instead

Not happy!!!

Hi @Steve.Cullum, I understand your frustration with Flow getting fixated on Post Rock.

It can be challenging when it doesn't align with your preferences.

Have you considered trying the advice given by ours Super User @Nina Nebo @GropplerZorn in the message above?

She shared some helpful tips on how to improve your Flow experience.

It might provide some insights or solutions to your current issue.

Thanks @Leonídia.Deezer

There was nothing in the linked article that I found helpful

I’m afraid that I view this as a deezer issue and not a user one

I have 387 in my favourites of which I cannot believe that more than 10% are post rock - and yet Deezer insisted in playing one after the other in spite of me immediately track skipping in the increasingly desperate hope that some other genre would play. This happened on two consecutive weekday evenings

I agree with OP.

I listen mostly to folk music, electronic music and recently a lot (I mean a LOT) of Brazilian music.

I also have playlists in genres I am mildly interested in. For example I have ONE favourite artist that happens to be Finnish. I do not speak Finnish and I have no interest in 99,9999% of other Finnish music. Regardless of how many times i press the dislike-button on each frikkin Finnish song that Flow serves med IT KEEPS SUGGESTING THESE SONGS! This has been going on for over a year now so nothing new.

Tell me how I can set a playlist to NOT influence Flow at all?

@wavetable

I'm always looking for new music. What is the name of the Finnish artist you like?
