Please Update to "Hikaru Utada" (Formerly "Utada Hikaru") – The Correct Artist Name
Hey everyone,
As someone who’s followed Utada Hikaru’s career for many years, I can tell you that the artist's name needs to be updated. In 2013, she transitioned from using "Utada Hikaru" (the traditional Japanese order) to "Hikaru Utada" (Western-style). This wasn’t a change of her actual name but a shift to better align with her personal identity and international naming conventions.
I’ve already contacted support, and they mentioned that the artist would need to reach out directly for this change. However, given Deezer’s size and how busy the artist is, it seems unreasonable to expect her to do so.
To confirm the name change, just check any of Utada’s official platforms (Twitter, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon, Qobuz, Apple Music, or her official website), where her name now appears as "Hikaru Utada."
Please update the name accordingly, as this is the correct and current presentation of the artist.
Thanks for your attention to this!
wanted to point out that you did update the bio section as it says “Hikaru Utada” but someone dropped the ball on the overall page
Interesting how this has not been addressed yet even more interesting that no one can do a quick google search to confirm what i’m saying or better yet that you can not contact your music broker agent at Sony/Epic to confirm also as i stated you corrected the name in the bio but not on the page?
Hi @MJmusicguy !
You can report this in link below
@Jaime.Deezer can you help here !?
@Nina Nebo Thought about that but um not the artist just a mega fan who got tired of seeing Deezer being the only platform to not honor the name change like for god sake Deezer's own site has it the first part of her bio has it jeez read this official article on ger site white is she called?
The website domain remains the original one, as expected—after all, who would give up a 25-year-old domain? However, if you look at the official site, her name is as i expressed I want to point out During my time with Qobuz, I personally helped correct this artist’s name and merge their content properly. once verified by the team..
While Deezer is a strong platform, for major artists, it's not something they’re likely to notice or prioritize. It’s up to Deezer to keep things updated, and if someone—a fan or artist—raises a concern, big or small, the appropriate contact should be reached to address it accordingly.
also this separate artist page is not needed because Hikaru and “Utada” are the sameso please merge with the main arrtisthttps://www.deezer.com/en/artist/1483
Both should simply be under Hikaru Utada
@MJmusicguy please send a request directly to ourDeezer Support Teamand one of our agents will be able to help and make the requested changes accordingly. Thanks
@Jaime.Deezer I did that already and was told that i couldn't possibly know that and because im a fan I cant help and that it was up to the artist to reach out
“
Unfortunately, it is not how it works when it comes to the data submitted on the page by the artists, I'm sorry that in this case as the catalogue team indicates, we would need the artist team to contact us so that we can have this updated with their help.
I'm here if you need any more help.
Have a great day!

someone just needs to use reason logic and pick up a phone and contact the label or look at all current media.
Logic is: a system of principles that uses reason to determine if a conclusion is true or untrue.
Header from her website
I apologize If i come off harsh but the difficulty i have to go through to Help improve a page of a artist I have been following since I was 16 where a basic google search can confirm is bothing me quite a bit
this is very funny
@Jaime.Deezer again a rep said the following
“ Let me explain, when an artist is registered on Deezer, it is done through a representative, Manager, Record Label, Producer, Distributor or by the artist themselves, having access to an exclusive platform that they use not only to manage their profile but also to upload songs to our platform.
Given this and as you mentioned, we are a huge company with thousands of artists, we cannot make changes, unifications or any type of modification to an artist's profile or profiles, since this is not Deezer's responsibility, even through a fan's request.
Just like you, Deezer does not know the reason why the information was not changed, it could be a matter of contract, marketing, global reach, or another reason for the artist and their representatives.
Only the artist or their representatives can make this change or request any change.
Making any changes without the request of the Artist or their representatives, at the request of a fan, could cause problems for the artist and their campaign.
For these reasons, Deezer does not make changes on its own or at the request of someone outside the Artist.
I hope I have clarified your doubts.”
Have a great Sunday.

Anyone who reads this post will see i have provided clear obvious evidence the first sentence of your own bio has the correct name as i said if someone actually reach's out to Sony epic they will confirm as well as the evidence i provided this is kind of a bad look for Deezer and i would like an apology i may be a fan but basic research or a call is all you need
Again sorry to be harsh i love the community but I don’t think I should have to fight so hard for a blatantly obvious change that's well everywhere but Deezer
Maybe the artist wanted his name on Deezer to be written in Western name order !?
@Nina Nebo She/they has had many names over her career but as I pointed out she has Chosen this artist name her real name in westen order as a part of her more exclusive and international mind set
On the 5th, EMI's leaders came to Japan from its headquarters in London. After reaching an agreement to sign a global contract, they announced a contract agreement to the world on the 8th. In the future, she will seal off the artist name "Utada" for English-speaking countries and work on the world stage as "Hikaru Utada".
Found the official press release from that day also in English
@Nina Nebo Thank you for helping still hard to understand why i have to prove my case so hard as you see above i have an official press release as recipes for what I am saying using internet archive if that's not enough lol i don't know what to do that also means she changed her name to western style globally in 2010 meaning the listings have been incorrect for 14 years?
@Jaime.Deezer here is the artist father and manager if you really want to fix it ask him
Maybe you can try, as a fan, draw the attention of the artist's father on platform X that Utada's name is spelled differently on Deezer !?
Maybe he will see it and then it will be corrected !
@Nina Nebo I will do my best but like also i do not see why Deezer is so hard about this the artist has simply chosen to use a her own true name in western style for both English and domestic work its not that hard to understand especially with all my research and explanations which i should not have to do because every major platform has been updated already just makes me said what do you think ?
@Nina Nebo maybe this is enough?
@Nina Nebo bless you for liking maybe this is silly to fight about but it is important to be accurate and i have more then proven at this point that I am correct what do you think?
I think you @MJmusicguy did your best and pointed out the problem, and now it's up to them to solve the problem.
Every artist who create his profile on Deezer he is responsible for how he will present himself on a certain platform.
In this case, the artist changed his name.
It's really strange that he himself didn't react or check how his name is written on Deezer or some other streaming platform !?
Maybe some contract does not allow him to do that or who knows what the reason is.
But only the artist or their representatives can make this change or request any change .
Also Deezer or anybody of us will not know the reason why the name was not changed ,because is their personal matter .
You are really persistent .
Good luck !
@Nina Nebo I honestly think its a case of the artist is to large to really consider Deezer they have a team and a label for that i am sure it is just a oversight but because artist doesn't know and Deezer refuse ask there Sony contacts it will never fixed because of Deezer's poor approach.
If it ever does get fixed i hope Deezer learn from it and maybe change policy to verify or at least apologize
@Jaime.Deezer i have one final note based on how much trouble i had pointing out that we simply need to reverse the artists name which i have more then proven so would a simple google search
seems like a outright lie as it claims fans can help out to and you will verify clearly not?
I have asked our music team and it is the artist or the label the only ones who can request changes like this. I have checked other music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple music and Amazon music and the artist also has 2 profiles. If the artist doesn’t know as you mentioned, then it is wrong in 4 or more music platforms. So it might be the case that this is intended. Thanks for report it, but again, in this case it is only the artist/label who can ask for changes. Apologies for the inconvenience
@Jaime.Deezer While I understand not wanting to make a change without consent however

I know its a lot to follow but i know her history
I am the one who fixed the page on Qobuz for example
they had to verify with the label/ distributor but its perfect now because of my efforts also just going to her official website should be enough to confirm or the video I shared above
I understand and I appreciate your efforts, however, the music team already told me that the request needs to come from the artist/label, specially when they checked with other streaming services and they also have 2 profiles. Thanks
@Jaime.Deezer 2 profiles is fine Its that she should be listed under Hikaru Uttada not Utdata Hikaru for at least her Japanese as of 2010 if we can atlest do that id be happy epically since its already that way on your existing bio?
I get it now and have requested the update (it might take a bit though) Apologies for any misunderstanding
@Jaime.Deezer yeah me as well my main concern was always her name being updated not that she had 2 pages as Utada was for her English would in the past. so it still works.
