After numerous tests and multiples un-installed and re-installed processes, i had no other options than sharing my frustration here.
Deezer will consume a LOT of mobile data and despite using the BASIC sound mode for mobile, it will consume up to 4mb/s resulting in an average of 50-70mb per tracks.
I downloaded GlassWire and monitored each and every settings from Deezer and even found that the STANDARD mode will use a less as 900kb/s whereas the BASIC used a minimum of 1279kb/s
I made use i stopped the app after each settings change and restart it before testing.
Today, i cannot enjoy my trips to work without stressing about bursting my monthly data plans..
Things were fine 2 months ago, just decided to act weird after every updates…
Using the latest deezer with Android 14
Come on Deezer, you claim millions of users worldwide which makes you USD 11,000,000.00 per month if we consider only ONE million premium members. And you guys cannot make sure the app is working as claimed and advertised here.
And this is from the one of the lowest quality Deezer proposed. Tried different quality in case they were messed up as I read from some old posts, but all of them will be around these figures.
Last reply from service centre was to ask me to listen to downloaded tracks instead of streaming if I am experiencing high data consumption. Like I cannot use features like from or recommendations that the app propose!!
Just ridiculous!!
Updates
Uninstalled Deezer and installed version 7.xxx on same mobile phone.
Same issues of excessive mobile data consumption.
Tested new Deezer versions on 3 other mobile phone running Android 12 and 14 which confirmed same issue.
Now waiting for Deezer to come up with answers, solutions...in the meanwhile users are paying excess data to their providers because of Deezer.
Screenshots below shows Deezer 7.xxxx freshly installed with no packets used
Second shot is after 2 tracks played for 7 mins.
One in Basic and another on Standard mobile sound quality.
Yup, there are numerous posts about this already. Very annoying issue, this has been bugging me for months. Thought it was fixed recently, but I just received an alert for my data usage and clearly Deezer is the one to blame.
Even video-apps like YouTube and Twitch don’t use as much data as the lowest possible music quality ... this is unbelievable
This really sounds serious like a bug. But it’s odd that this is also with the old 7.x Deezer. I’m going to do some testing here with Android 12 and Deezer 8.0.9.28.
I’ve started a song that is 06:39 minutes, standard audio quality:
Data usage was at: 38.84 Mb
After playing this song: 50.12 Mb.
12 Mb for a song at standard audio quality.
I also started a song that is 04:01 minutes, basic audio quality:
Data usage was at: 50.19
After playing this song: 112,63
I will test this later again, but now it looks like that the basic is using more than standard??
And these are songs that I haven’t listened before on my phone, so no cache is being used.
Spotify audio quality at HIGH 160kb/s consumed 4 times less than Deezer Basic 64kb/s for the same tracks and same duration on the same mobile network.
@awesomemac Update us with your tests please
Started a song, time 03:53, standard audio: 10,71 Mb
Started a song, time 04:06, basic audio: 117,11 Mb.
Both songs aren’t in the Deezer cache.
@Leonídia.Deezer is this something you can send to the developers?
(I’m going to test it also on the iPhone)
Hi @BXIII@YannisWS, thank you for sharing your experience with us, and a big thank you to @awesomemac for your incredible help.
We're aware that the option for basic audio in our current catalog is only available for a small number of tracks.
There's a known issue where if a track isn't available in basic quality, it automatically streams in HiFi quality instead of the expected behavior of playing in the next available quality, which is standard quality.
This can result in higher data consumption when using basic quality for certain tracks.
To conserve data, we recommend selecting standard quality instead.
I've already forwarded your feedback to our developers, and I'll be sure to keep you updated as soon as I have any news.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Perfect explained. Thank you.

High mobile data usage can be caused by several factors, including streaming videos, downloading large files, background app refreshes, and automatic updates. Social media apps, especially those that auto-play videos, can also consume significant amounts of data. To reduce mobile data usage, consider lowering video streaming quality, using Wi-Fi whenever possible, disabling automatic app updates teeth whitening stoke on trent and backups, and monitoring which apps are consuming the most data through your phone's settings.
