Featured playlists are biased

I’ve constantly seen curated playlists centered around women (Women Voices, Women of Metal, etc). Never playlists specifically containing men. I didn’t pay too much attention to this for the past years, until today when I specifically searched for men curated playlists and didn’t find any (simply searched “men”). The situation is reversed if you search for “women”, you can find basically anything you want, tens and tens of featured/curated playlists.

I personally find this biased and a bit unpleasant. Am I missing something, like I searched the wrong way, or is it intentional? If it’s intentional, can it be solved?

Hi @bodisan !

Deezer creates and highlights playlists featuring women artists to support a more inclusive music industry, celebrating female talent and giving them greater visibility, especially in light of the challenges they face. Initiatives like the Women Chart, the Women\'s Voices channel, and the "100% Women" Flow feature focus on empowering female artists year-round by curating and promoting their music, podcasts, and albums.

Why Deezer highlights female artists:

Promoting Inclusion:
Deezer is committed to creating a more inclusive music industry by giving female artists the spotlight and increasing their representation.
Addressing Underrepresentation:
Despite their talent, women artists often struggle for visibility, and these playlists help to counter that by providing more opportunities for them to be heard.
Celebrating Women's Voices:
The company celebrates the significant impact women have on the music industry by showcasing their musical contributions and empowering their unique voices.
Examples of these initiatives on Deezer:
Women Chart: A monthly chart dedicated to the most-listened-to female artists, highlighting their success on a global and regional level.
Women's Voices channel: A dedicated channel featuring influential women artists, their music, albums, and podcasts.
"100% Women" Flow: A feature that highlights and promotes the music of female artists.

I am not any kind of activist, I don’t like either end of the political spectrum, and anyway I don’t see why politics would matter in this discussion.

I’m just expressing my own opinion. I think Deezer is a music platform, not a political one. Inequalities might exist (thohugh in music I haven’t seen them), but to be honest the music offering should be tailored to the audience: you have mensubscribers, so create playlists for men. You have women, do the same. It’s easy.

And in the end, you get equality by promoting equality, not by positive discrimination.

I don’t like policy pushed down my throat, I come here to listen to music.

@bodisan !

I don't know what politics has to do with what you stated. This is about sexism.
Fact is that the music industry is dominated by men and that male musicians are better accepted and promoted. When women's music is promoted, it bothers some people but as you said yourself, everyone has the right to say what they think.

If you don't like the Women playlists offered, you can simply ignore them.

There is an option to create a New Playlist and there add all the selected songs by male artists to a new playlist that you can name "Male Artists" or "Male Voice"
