Mixes play random music

I’ve been testing out Deezer for a few days, I love the good audio quality, but I’m having some major issues with the music Deezer is choosing for me. Any time I try to use one of their mixes it gives me absolute nonsense. A mix based on a melodic, instrumental song gave me a Cardi B song as the second one. That was jarring. And annoying. I added her to my do not recommend, and then tried another mix. Again, based on an instrumental track, but the second song was rap. Then I got a song similar to the one that started the mix, and then the next song was a bass-heavy housemix.

Is there some kind of setting I’m missing to make it stop doing this? I understand not every track in a mix being perfect, but these aren’t even close to the same genre. I come from Spotify and though I don’t expect the algorithm here to be as good as the one on Spotify, I expect it should at least be able to understand basic differences in genre. It’s only made worse by the fact that I can’t see what song is coming next in the mix (I’ve started skipping through a bunch of songs and then going back to the first one so I can get an idea of the mix’s content).

Being able to turn on a mix and let it just play in the background is a big deal for me, since I use a lot of music to help focus during work. When I get a song that doesn’t fit the style, or in a genre I don’t enjoy, it kinda ruins the whole thing for me. I really, really like how nice the music sound on Deezer, I don’t really want to go back to Spotify. Is there a fix for this issue I’m having?

The Mixes inspired by are good in my Deezer, also the Daily Mixes.

I understand that it can be very annoying if the mixes are not right or if there is something in between that is not at all to your taste. I would think the same.
But isn't it true that Deezer still needs to get to know you a little better?

Have you selected favorite songs, artists and albums in Deezer?

When I started with Deezer and had selected all of this, there were immediately good Daily Mixes.

If you haven't done this yet, I highly recommend it. The more songs, albums and artists you select as favorites, the better the recommendations.

You can also import your Spotify favorites via TuneMyMusic via Deezer. You can find this in your account settings:

Hi,

Thank you for leaving a message about this.

How long have you been testing Deezer? And how do you start these mixes? Do you choose a song and then click on Launch Track Mix?

Or do you use the Daily Mixes?

I notice the problem is the most egregious on the “Mixes inspired by” section on the home page. I haven’t been using the daily ones all that much so far, because the mixes I’ve been recommend haven’t really been to my taste. That, however I understand isn’t really the apps fault. I’ve been on Deezer for about two weeks, and though I imported a lot of favorites over from Spotify, I do know it’s still learning my preferred styles. As mentioned, I’ve been on this app for two weeks, but I’ve been listening several hours a day. I’m currently in the free trial and I’m considering moving my family plan from Spotify to Deezer, but there are people on that plan who are… less than willing to be flexible with their music. If anything pops up on a playlist that isn’t the expected genre, they’ll probably never want to use the app again.

As mentioned, I like the good quality of the music. And I also like supporting smaller companies. I would love to stay with Deezer.

Maybe if you already know that you only want to listen to instrumental music, you should search for a playlist, album, artist, track or radio that contains this term:

Hmm…

Thank you both for your input. I’ll keep in mind being able to search for instrumental playlists, though that isn’t quite the same thing.

I have already imported all of my favorite albums, artists, playlists, and songs from Spotify. It was one of the first things I did, and considering I listen to very little popular music, I’m understanding of getting recs I don’t enjoy in my mixes until it figures out my music preference. The issue isn’t really a matter of my preferences though, but rather an issue withe mixes not always being consistent in style of music.  For example, I pulled up this mix to listen to today.

Sultana Dreaming is a lullaby like instrumental from a video game. After that I got… Crimson Glory? Two songs by a band called Accept. Then the Scorpions. All four sounds are clearly in the same genre. Classic Rock, I think? But, the genre is so drastically different from the first song on the list that it’s hard to believe this is a mix “based on my favorite tracks.” The fifth song in the mix, by the way, swung back all the way to soft sounding video game music. It’s honestly more like the mix tape made by that one weird friend whose taste in music you don’t quite understand. Which, hey, isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if you know that’s what you’re getting. But when I click on a mix that says it’s inspired by a slow, piano song and then get the Scorpions it seems misleading.

But either way, from what it sounds like, there isn’t a setting that makes this issue stop happening. I’ll just have to continue checking the track mixes by skipping a bunch of songs and then going back to the first to make sure they hold true to the type of song they’re based around. I find they have more variety of than the daily mixes though, so overall I like them.

I will say, kudos to Deezer for even having video game soundtracks. I tried out Tidal but left it because it didn’t have any of the soundtracks I listened to. Deezer has an selection of music.

Apologies for being wordy. Thank you both your assistance.

Yeah, it's really annoying when mixes just start playing some completely random songs. Like, I picked a vibe for a reason! Wish there was a way to fix this.

@Jaime.Deezer, is there a way to “reset” the music preferences for @Gracelessliar and others so that the mixes are better than they are now?

There’s no way to do it as far as I am concerned.
I’d recommend to contact our Deezer Support Team for further information

Deezer has pretty clearly made negative changes to algorithms lately.    My daily mixes and especially flow often contained.some random stuff and genre changes.

But in the last few weeks, it's gone to the point where daily mixes plays the listed bands listed on the daily mix and then goes totally sideways,  literally song after song from artists I never heard of, aren't even in the same area.  (Like instructional piano instrumentals in indie rock playlists)

I don't think it's a case of profile getting polluted or autoplay or.anyrjing like that...m I think they have screwed something up on their side
