End of support for Deezer Connect

Our goal at Deezer is to create the best listening experience by providing features that bring the most enjoyment to our community. Sometimes, that means having to make tough decisions, like letting go of features that no longer serve our listeners.

The remote control feature, also known as Deezer connect, allowed users to control their music playing on one device from another device. We understand that many of you found this tool useful. However, in order to dedicate our resources most effectively and provide the best possible experience to our users, we have decided to discontinue support for the Deezer Connect feature.

We appreciate your understanding and adaptability to these changes. We are so grateful to the users that enjoyed the Deezer Connect feature and we know some of you will miss it. But don't worry, there are still other ways to listen to Deezer across all of your devices. If you need any help discovering other options, please don't hesitate to visit our devices page! πŸ’œ

To be fair, Deezer connect barely worked and when it did, it wasn’t a good experience. Was hoping the feature would be worked on so it improved but I guess the priorities have shifted into ruining the general user interface.

The story of a failure. It never worked as intended. I truly hope for Deezer that Spotify HIFI doesn’t come out. It will be painful to watch if it does.

i cross post it here too i ncase my simple reply on my own posty is not seen.
Deezer connect design flaw | Deezer Community, bringing music lovers together

Really ?   I just made the step to go from spotify to deezer and one of the things that where important was to be able to eazy play music on other media then my phone or windows pc  (like my denon avr or raspberry based music player moode)

With deezer connect that was possible withouth loosing a lot of functionality like for example the implementation in heos (denon) where is is difficult to change your flow preference and even more difficult to mark songs from flow as dont run this artist anymore or song.

Now you take functionality away that was not perfect but at least it was there?

Is this the startup to going further and further bacj in functionality ?  like is the heos rfucntioanlity going away also ?   Its a way to drive me back to spotify fast or look for other options to get better quality mucic like flac from oter providers.

I’m the developer of pleezer an open-source Deezer Connect client downloaded over 10,000 times in the last six months.

While the playback functionality in the official Deezer apps has indeed degraded, the remote control functionality β€” directing playback to external clients like pleezer β€” has remained rock-solid.

That’s why I urge you not to shut down the Connect backend completely.

There’s a simple middle-ground solution:

Let the Deezer apps continue acting as controllers, while no longer advertising them as playback targets. This avoids user confusion while preserving valuable third-party integrations β€” with minimal maintenance overhead.

There are several top-voted ideas in the community forum asking for things pleezer already enables:

  • Exclusive USB DAC support

  • Linux-native playback

  • Streamer integration (e.g., moOde, Volumio)

  • Gapless playback

Please consider keeping this backend alive for the many of us who rely on Deezer outside the boundaries of the official apps.

It was the development of pleezer which induced me to subscribe to Deezer (for my reasons, see the bullet points in roderickvd’s post, above) and without the continued functionality of pleezer I will have no reason to continue my Deezer subscription.

I, for one, will not ever be installing any app named pleezer on my phone.

LOL, you made my day @GropplerZorn  :)

Spammers are just as annoying as trolls, if not worse, and this person's lack of creativity in naming apps is epic.

Good job it isn’t an app for your phone then isn’t it?

I consider this an unfortunate decision because a feature of the same scale must be introduced before removing one of the main features.

Shame it didn’t have the same features as Spotify/Tidal Connect - I imagine a lot of users were confused because of that.

Hello from a former deezer user who was really considering restarting the subscription because of pleezer.

It would be a shame if such a nice implementation would stop working. I mainly use single board computers with Moode or similar solutions as my audio streamers. The fact that a streaming service can work on such devices is crucial for my choices.

Thank you for your attention.

I too am a recent Deezer user (after ending my Spotify subscription). Without the functionality offered by pleezer, I would not have made the switch to Deezer. And if this functionality does not return (as per roderickvd’s suggestion above), I will be forced to end my Deezer subscription and go back to Spotify.

Please reconsider your decision!

Like others I read above, I am a Deezer user who mainly uses the "Deezer connect" function via "Pleezer". The discontinuation of this function will certainly be a reason to cancel my subscription and move on to something else, in addition to the sudden decision to discontinue this function is bad behavior on your part. It was necessary to warn in due time. I am very disappointed. I would like to add that in these two days I contacted support to ask why "deezer connect" no longer appeared in the Android app and no one told me anything about this, proving that there is no communication.

I am with Roderick here. I am using Kodi on a Raspberry Pi as my main media player in the living room and pleezer in connection with Deezer Connect has been an absolute pleasure to work with outside of Kodi.

Please keep the ability of the Deezer app to act as a controller for full clients, so that people who don’t rely on chromecast or Apple TV for their media consumption are able to access their Deezer account with those devices.

For me this absolutely limits the usefulness of Deezer as a Service. And in contrast to your promise from your post β€œBut don't worry, there are still other ways to listen to Deezer across all of your devices.” this actually takes away a device from me on which I could listen to Deezer until two days ago. No official Linux client, no official Kodi Plugin.

That does not feel like you want to provide the best possible experience to this user, but pleezer made it happen with being able to play Deezer content on my setup.

There are reasons I chose Deezer over other players in the field (european company, ACPS, no Josh Rogan, Flow is pretty good at finding new relevant music), and yes, Deezer connect wasn’t one of the reasons. But after using it for a while, it really is a major pain in the ass to see it go away.

Oh, and please: Could you announce things *BEFORE* they happen and not after the fact?

Last: Thank you @roderickvd for the really awesome work on pleezer. It was great while it lasted.

Ralph

Very upset by this decision! I hope you change your mind about this, I’m definitely ending my subscription without this feature.

I've been on a Deezer trial and this is a factor in my decision to use another service. There are a couple that have recently added "connect" functionality themselves

Great

It’s a shame

I have no other to say and i hope this functionality come back

if not, i will go to another platform because in 2025 is ridiculous not have this feature

Other streaming platform say thank you Deezer for this downgrade and for new customers

I was about to subscribe after my free trial just because I can use this functionality with Moodle player and my high fidelity system.... Now I'll look elsewhere

Allow me to redact the statement of Deezer:

β€žOur goal at Deezer is to create the best listening experience …. that means … no longer serve our listeners.”

This is a right shame, the only way I listen is with an older phone with Deezer connected to my sound system 24/7, purely to play music via Deezer Connect. I did leave a negative review regarding the reliability of Deezer Connect in the past, but I thought it had improved and stopped crashing the app entirely and was stable for the last year or so.

I will be reconsidering my Deezer subscription
