Song Radio skipping in Sonos

Whenever I start a Deezer custom radio station from a track in the Sonos app, the playlist is generated but the songs skip through every few seconds, usually without playing any audio. I’m running my system on a wired LAN, so connection isn’t an issue. I only recently switched from Spotify and there were no similar issues with that. A search in the Sonos community suggests this is known about and the implication is that Deezer needs to look at its implementation to fix the issue. Are there any plans to address this?

Hi @paulwa !

Deezer's "Song Radio" feature can sometimes skip tracks excessively when used within the Sonos app, potentially without playing any audio. This issue seems to stem from a bug in how Sonos handles the "Start Radio" function with Deezer, and potentially other services. While all other Deezer functionality on Sonos may work, the radio feature can be affected.

When using the "Start Radio" function within the Sonos app with Deezer as the music service, the generated playlist may skip through tracks rapidly, often without playing any audio.
This issue is reported to occur even when the Sonos system is connected via a wired network, suggesting it's not a general network connectivity problem.
The problem appears to be related to how Sonos handles the radio functionality with certain music services, including Deezer.

Possible Solutions and Workarounds :

1. System Reboot:
Try rebooting your entire Sonos system, including your router and all Sonos devices.

2. Network Reset:
If the issue persists, consider a network reset. Unplug all Sonos devices and your router, wait a few minutes, and then plug them back in.

3. Wired Connection:
If you're using a wireless setup, try wiring one Sonos device to your router to see if it improves the connection.

4. Check Router Settings:
Review your router's manual for instructions on how to reserve IP addresses for your Sonos devices.

5. Sonos Support:
If the problem continues, submitting a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing the issue and contacting Sonos Support might help pinpoint the problem.

6. Alternative Playback Methods:
If you need to use Deezer radio urgently, consider using Airplay or Bluetooth to play music from your phone or computer to your Sonos speaker, bypassing the Sonos app's radio feature.

7. Keep System Updated:
Ensure your Sonos system and the Sonos app are up to date with the latest software versions.

8. Contact Deezer:
If the issue is related to how Deezer handles radio on Sonos, you can also reach out to Deezer Support to report the problem

This sounds like one of those finger pointing exercises rather than taking responsibility. The fact is that I’ve used other music services on Sonos very recently that don’t skip when playing song radio. As a manufacturer they must publish a common set of APIs that developers build to. Funny thing is that artist radio doesn’t have the same issue.
