Screen/Display always on.

Having moved to Deezer from Spotify I was quite disappointed to find that whilst driving and despite having my device on charge, my android screen would turn itself off. Something Spotify did not do.

If a song started to play and I needed to know who it was, I would have to use my fingerprint to unlock my phone to see this information, requiring me to dangerously adjust my concentration as a fingerprint is not always recognised the first time and after a few attempts the phone can only be unlocked via the pin for 30 seconds.

1- With new laws in the UK it is illegal to even so much as touch a mobile device whilst driving, even being parked stationary with your engine running. This is still illegal.

2- It is dangerous, a risk for myself, pedestrians and other drivers... to operate a mobile device whilst driving. It is irresponsible. Sadly this is an issue close to my heart as I lost my 3 closest friends in one accident in which a driver behaved irresponsibly.

With the screen always on whilst driving I just need to glance at my screen to see who the artist is. I can already skip tracks using my car stereo and this is sufficient for the average user.

I would implore Deezer to make this a priority safety issue as well as a QoL (Quality of Life) improvement

It's an android permission and should be added as a option in the display section of our settings as to whether we want our screen always on or to adhere to our mobile devices power saving features and go to sleep.

I left Spotify because they took away landscape view and this left me with no options to view the artist and song that was currently playing safely whilst driving.

In fact it made it an incredibly dangerous act to find the information.

Months after the issue was raised they announced landscape view would not be returning despite the outcry and even news stories reporting the concern.

So please do the right thing.

I was lucky as my Sony has a feature, (though not easy to find,) that allows me to select apps I want to bypass the sleep function and I was able to do this. I am unsure as to other makes and models as I only use Sony Mobile Phones.

In my mind this should become a standard option across all variants of the app in the name of safety

With deepest respect & gratitude

Hey there @The W'o'anderer

I totally understand why you want this feature, what car do you drive?

Doesn’t the title and artist playing not appear on the autoradio screen?

Hi @Yula

I drive a Honda HR-V (2002) and I have a Sony MEX-N6002BD stereo and play my music through a Sony Xperia 1 ii via Bluetooth as this allows me to use my stereo as a hands free device to answer phone calls.

Even though both my stereo and phone are Sony and that I'm able to use the Media Centre App to access the settings on my stereo through my mobile device. The Song and Artist does not show on my display and I find no option to enable that.

There are Stereos that have features like that unfortunately mine is not one of them.

I have a standard playlist that I throw all new songs into before deciding which Genre and Playlist they should go into. So often whilst I'm driving, which is when i listen to music most, a song comes on that I won't recognise and need to take note of the artist so that I may move it to the correct playlist (when it is safe to do so), sometimes for me it takes a few listens to decide.

This is why I find having the display on and the song and artist showing is such an important feature for me. Apart from the screen going to sleep, Deezer does well enough as it stands right now to show the info, though the info could be a little bit bigger if I had to nit pick. When Spotify supported Landscape Mode the artist and song displayed across the entire screen, this was perfect naturally but not entirely necessary and I do like the fact that Deezer shows the album cover along with the song info, So other than the info being a little on the small side I would not change the format Deezer uses, I genuinely like it.

I know newer cars have multimedia centres built in now so I know this is not a problem for people who can afford a new car. I sadly... Do not fall into that category.

My best friends Toyota is under 2 years old and displays song info on his multimedia screen.

Anyway

Apologies for my long winded response and thank you for hearing my concern.

Sincerely

Brad
