Deezer Desktop (Mac version) has not worked on my iMac for over a year. Listening to Deezer via web browsers has also been problematic, except for Safari browser… until two days ago. Everything was working fine, but now when I try to listen to Deezer in Safari, this message appears in the browser: ‘This Webpage is using Significant Memory in Safari.’ Seconds after this message appears, Safari quits. This ‘memory’ warning does not appear when I am using any other website - including streaming sites. It seems to be exclusive to Deezer. No amount of online tips to solve the problem, work. Can someone help, please?

@Retrospective

Some information about your mac model and os version would be helpful.

Hi Superschlumpf,

Thank you for replying.

I am using a 2019 3GHz  iMac with 24 GB of memory. The OS is Ventura 13.1, which has been

installed on the Mac since December 13th, 2022.

@Retrospective

Ok, your hardware seems pretty good and fast. Imho this is a mac os problem like many others after the ventura update. Maybe Deezer has to change something, but Apple definitely made things much more complicated with this update. 🙄

Thanks for your reply. Firefox seems to play Deezer with no problems… for now. Just odd Deezer  suddenly stopped working in Safari. Also, I have had Ventura installed for just over a month, and all was working fine with Deezer until a few days ago, so I am unsure whether it’s a Ventura / Apple Mac problem.

I have the same problem on MacBook M1 8Gb Monterey… Each time I open deezer on safari same ‘out of memory’ message appears, the song starts stuttering and then completely crashes. Hope Deezer is seeing these complaints.

The same issue. It began for me in the middle of the previous week. It even caused twice the crash (reboot) of my iMac  (iMac 21,5 2019 - 8Go - Catalina). At those moments, I couldn’t be sure it was due to Deezer (cos other applications were running). But I've done the test now with the monitor opened : Deezer entry of the memory tab simply increase with no limit ( many Go) until safari blocks the tab with the message “This Webpage is using Significant Memory in Safari”.

I can reproduce it on and on.

Hello Ber Bas and Comedon,

There are many people online offering useless ‘tips’ to try and solve this so-called Safari/Mac problem. It is 100% a Deezer problem. Only Deezer can fix it. Spotify runs with no problems in Safari. ALL websites run properly in Safari, except for guess who?

And before anyone suggests switching off VPNs and turning off Safari extensions etc, please don’t bother! Deezer is the problem, not Apple, not Mac, not Ventura, not Safari.

PS: Comedon, the Deezer problem started with me at around the same time it first started causing problems for you.

Ok, to help the devs fixing this i suggest all of you send a request with detailed information to the support team.

OK, will do that soon as I have posted this message. Thanks for your help.

I’ve send a request on the french (my natural language) version yesterday. No reply so far.

The problem persists this morning. And I realize there’s no need to start a stream to see the RAM going mad.

I’ve asked a friend to do a test on his MacBook Air 16Go - Ventura - Safari 16 (vs my config iMac - Catalina - Safari 13). He got the same problem.

On the other hand, I test the site with Firefox : it works fine.

It’s clearly a Safari-Deezer issue.

Considering there’s very posts in this issue, my conclusion is nobody use his computer to listen to music any more : /

I have received a reply from Deezer Support.

The Customer Care Agent asked me to do the following:

Clear Safari Preferences and empty the cache. I had already done this, but it didn’t solve the problem. It was also suggested that I go into the Mac’s System Preferences > Security & privacy > Accessibility > Deezer > Allow Deezer.  I have ‘Allowed Deezer’ in these Preferences, yet the problem with Safari still exists. I have responded to Deezer Support, and I await their further reply.

No reply from the French Deezer support on my side.

I empty the cache => no change

Considering the second point, I didn’t use the Deezer StandAlone application. Deezer is not listed in my Accessibility section.

Today the problem remains the same.

But strangely, considering the way this post goes, it doesn’t seem to embarrass many people.

I have had a further response from Deezer and, as requested, have made a video

recording of the Deezer/Safari problem. This time the ‘memory warning’ message appears

at 4 minutes into using Deezer.

Comedon, regarding the Deezer standalone/desktop application: I have this on my

computer, but it hasn’t worked properly for just over a year.

The Deezer problem, as you have found out, does not happen in Firefox. I do use Firefox as my

main browser,  and I use Safari only for Deezer, and other music streaming services.

The problem is solved in France (for me and the others). The site must have been updated cos no specific action from us.

I wrote the problem was solved.

In a way it’s true : the memory no longer go wild.

On the other hand, I got few lines in the monitor labeled as “Safari cache” for near one Go. Lines that out-lived when i close my broswer. I had to use the clear cache function to get ride of it.

Yes, it would seem that the problem has gone away and all is now working well with Deezer in Safari.

Deezer Support sent me a further email claiming the problem must be with my computer’s memory!  I know this not to be the case. Anyway, all working well now, so thanks for your messages Comedon, and thanks to you too, Superschlumpf for your help.
