Last.fm scrobble doesn't work properly in certain scenarios

I’m playing Deezer on a Google Nest Mini device (via Google Cast from my Android device) and there are two scenarios in which the scrobble to Last.fm doesn’t work properly:

  • When I go to Favorites and play Shuffle My Music, it simply doesn’t Scrobble at all. Besides, this Shuffle My Music feature only plays 20 tracks and than stops. Is this by design?
  • When I play one of the Mixes inpired by... (which seems to be a new feature) it only Scrobbles the initial track, and it does so for every following track. In other words, the initial track is scrobbled repeatedly for every track of the mix. Screenshot bellow.

Other than that, the scrobbling works fine, even with Flow.

I can confirm the ‘Mix based on track’ as well as ‘automated suggestions’ does scrobble the initial track over and over again instead of the tracks just played. I mean I like Placebo, but this much?

Are there any other scenarios where the internal scrobbling option in Deezer works ok with your setup? I neither have a Google Nest Mini device nor use Google Cast, so I cannot check this myself.

Maybe disabling the internal scrobbling option in the Sharing Preferences of the Deezer web player and using an external Android scrobbling app on your phone instead would help. Besides the official Last.fm Android app there are others like Pano Scrobbler, Scroball, Simple Scrobbler, Finale etc. that you could try.

“Mixes inspired by...” is the same feature as launching a track mix from any track with the 3-dot dropdown menu, by the way. So you could check if track mixes also result in this strange placeholders showing as repeated scrobbles of the first track.

“Shuffle My Music” should also play more songs than 20 if there are more favorite tracks in your library. Can you test it on a desktop computer perhaps?

It happens in the browser as well as on Android. It’s a server-setting, if you enable ‘Scrobble from Deezer’ it does so om all players.

External scrobblers work better, but, if you are like me and have many devices that could play Deezer it’s a mess setting all these apps right, and for example on a Nest it doesn’t work (AFAIK).

To me this seems like a 100% Deezer bug where they decide that when you strart a ‘Mix of this song’ it will scrobble the first over and over. Nothing we can do about it other than your suggestion use 3-party scrobblers. Or wait for a bug-fix

“Shuffle my Music” returns 50 songs in the both the browser and the App for me (with 576 tracks in my favourites, so maybe there’s a 10% rule or something, just guessing)

The “Shuffle My Music” button in the desktop app and web player seems to load about 50 tracks in the play queue first, but when you approach the end of it, it automatically fetches the next 50 tracks and adds them to the queue. So it is a kind of “endless mix” of your library, too, but showing the next tracks in advance unlike e.g. Flow.

It’s possible that this does not work elsewhere, e.g. when using Chromecast.on a mobile app, so it stops after 20 tracks then.
