Born 1944 - Will Jennings

American lyricist Will Jennings. He was known for writing the lyrics for the songs 'Up Where We Belong', 'Higher Love', 'Tears in Heaven' and 'My Heart Will Go On'. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and won several awards including three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Academy Awards. He died on 6 September 2024 at the age of 80.

Ian Paice, English musician, best known as the drummer of Deep Purple. He has been the band's only constant member since its foundation. They scored the 1970 UK No.2 single 'Black Night' and the 1973 US No. 4 single 'Smoke On The Water'. Paice has also worked with Whitesnake and Gary Moore.

Deborah Harry, American singer, songwriter, and actress with Blondie who scored five UK No.1 singles including the 1979 UK & US No.1 single 'Heart Of Glass' and the 1978 world-wide No.1 album Parallel Lines. As a solo artists she scored the 1986 UK No. 8 single 'French Kissing In The USA'. A former Playboy Bunny, her acting career spans over thirty film roles and numerous television appearances.

Born 1938 - Bill Withers

Bill Withers, American singer-songwriter who had the 1972 US No.1 single 'Lean On Me', 1988 UK No.4 single 'Lovely Day', which was first released in 1978. Toward the end of the song, Withers holds a note for 18 seconds. This is believed to be the second-longest note in UK chart history. Morten Harket of A-ha's 20-second note in "Summer Moved On" is the longest. Withers died from heart complications in Los Angeles on March 30, 2020 age 81.

TLC started a seven week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Waterfalls', the group's second US No.1, and a No.4 hit in the UK. The music video for the song reflected its socially conscious lyrics. With a million-dollar budget, the video was an MTV staple that boosted the song's success. The video won four MTV Video Music Awards in 1995, including Video of the Year. TLC was the first African-American act to receive the trophy.
