2024 

Kylie Minogue scored her 10th No.1 album in the UK with her seventeenth studio album Tension II. In doing so, she became the only female artist to have secured chart-topping LPs in five consecutive decades. In Australia, It became Minogue's eighth No.1 studio album, her fifth consecutive No.1, and her ninth No.1 album overall in the country. The album also debuted at No.1 on the Official Vinyl UK Albums Chart.

October 27th

 Simon Le Bon was born in 1958

English singer-songwriter Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran. Emerging as one of the most successful bands of the New Romantic scene in the early 1980s, they scored the 1983 UK No.1 single 'Is There Something I Should Know', plus have had over 25 other UK Top 40 singles. Their third album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, became their only UK No.1 album and featured the US and UK No.1 single 'The Reflex'. In 1985, the band topped the US charts with the single 'A View to a Kill' from the soundtrack of the James Bond film of the same title. Le Bon was also a member of its offshoot Arcadia, who had the 1985 UK No.7 single 'Election Day'. Le Bon went to Pinner County Grammar School, the same school that Elton Johnattended some years earlier. He has received three Ivor Novello Awards, including the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. He also received an MBE in 2024.

Eros Ramazzotti was born in 1963

Italian musician and singer-songwriter, Eros Ramazzotti who has sold over 60 million records in his career. He has worked with artists such as Cher, Tina Turner, Andrea Bocelli, Patsy Kensit, Anastacia, Joe Cocker, Nicole Scherzinger and Ricky Martin.

October 29th

 Toby Smith was born in 1970

Toby Smith, keyboards, with Jamiroquai who had the 1993 UK No.1 album Emergency on Planet Earth and the 1998 UK No.1 single 'Deeper Underground'. Smith died on 11 April 2017 aged 46 after he had been diagnosed with cancer six years earlier

November 3rd

Born 1954 - Adam Ant

English singer and musician Stuart Goddard, (Adam Ant), who had the 1981 UK No.1 single 'Stand And Deliver' with Adam and the Ants. He scored 10 UK top ten hits from 1980 to 1983, including three UK No.1 singles. He has also worked as an actor, appearing in over two dozen films and television episodes from 1985 to 2003.

2021 

ABBA released their ninth and final studio album Voyage, their first album in 40 years. They decided to make it while preparing for their show Voyage, which features digital avatars ("Abba-tars") of the band members. The album went to No. 1 in most European countries and also Australia.

1965 

The Rolling Stones started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Get Off Of My Cloud', the group's second US No.1. The song knocked The Beatles 'Yesterday' from the No.1 position.

November 7th

1987 

Tiffany became the youngest act to score a US No.1 since Michael Jackson ('Ben', in 1972) with 'I Think we're Alone Now'. The song written by Ritchie Cordell was initially a 1967 hit for Tommy James & the Shondells.

November 8th

2008 

AC/DC started a two-week run at #1 on the US album chart with 'Black Ice' the bands fifteenth studio album and the second-best selling album of 2008. Black Ice went to #1 in 29 countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US.

November 9th

2023 

Tracy Chapman's 35-year-old song 'Fast Car' was named both song and single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville. The awards recognised a cover version by Luke Combs, which reached No.2 in the US. This also marked a long overdue milestone: Chapman became the first black songwriter to win Song of the Year in the ceremony's 57-year history.

2023 

The Beatles topped the UK charts with their single, 'Now and Then', making them the act with the longest gap between their first and last No.1's. Sixty years after 'From Me to You' topped the charts, Sir Paul McCartney said: "It's blown my socks off!" 'Now and Then' became this century's fastest-selling vinyl single, according to the Official Charts Company. Its first bars were written by John Lennon in 1978, and the song was finally completed last year.

Gilbert O'Sullivan was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Clair', the singers first of two UK No.1's. The Irish singer songwriter would dress as a 1920s worker in flat cap, braces and baggy trousers.

2016 

Robbie Williams broke the record for the most No.1 albums by a British solo artist. The singer's latest album, The Heavy Entertainment Show, debuted at No.1 on this week's chart. It is his 12th album to reach the summit and pushed him ahead of David Bowie who has 11 No.1 albums to his name.

2020 

Kylie Minogue went to No.1 on the UK album chart with Disco, making her the only woman to top the chart in five consecutive decades.

1960 

Ray Charles went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Georgia On My Mind', a No.24 hit in the UK. His cover of Hoagy Carmichael's 1930 standard, became the first of three No.1 hits for the singer. In 1979, the State of Georgia designated Ray Charles' version the official state song and the song has become part of the Great American Songbook tradition.

Born in 1945 - Frida Lyngstad

Swedish singer, songwriter Anni-Frid Lyngstad (born in Bjørkåsen, Norway), from ABBA. Their first UK hit was the 1974 No.1 single 'Waterloo', followed by 8 other UK No.1 singles and 9 UK No.1 albums. ABBA are one of the best-selling music artists of all time and is ranked as the third best-selling singles artist in the United Kingdom, with a total of 11.3 million singles sold. In 1967, Frida won the Swedish national talent competition, New Faces, winning a recording contract with EMI Sweden. After the break-up of ABBA, she continued an international solo singing career with mixed success, releasing the albums Something's Going On (1982) and Shine (1984); the latter being her last international album. In 1996, Lyngstad recorded her final album in Swedish, Djupa andetag (Deep Breaths), before retiring from music.

Born in 1969 - Bryan Abrams

Bryan Abrams, singer from American R&B group Color Me Badd, who had the 1991 UK No.1 single 'I Wanna Sex You Up', and the 1991 US No.1 single 'I Adore Mi Amor'. The group has sold over 12 million records worldwide, had nine Top 40 hits, and a triple-platinum album and were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Born in 1956 - Peter Cox

Peter Cox, singer with Go West, who had the 1985 UK No.5 single 'We Close Our Eyes' and hits with 'Call Me' and 'King of Wishful Thinking'. They were named Best British Newcomer at the 1986 Brit Awards.

November 18th

Born in 1960 - Kim Wilde

English pop singer Kim Wilde (the eldest child of 1950s rock and roller Marty Wilde), who had the 1981 UK No.2 single 'Kids In America' and the 1987 US No.1 single with a reworked version of the Supremes' song 'You Keep Me Hanging On'. Between 1981 and 1996, she had 25 singles that charted within the Top 50 of the UK singles chart. She branched into an alternative career as a landscape gardener, which has included presenting gardening shows on the BBC and Channel 4. In 2005, she won a Gold award for her courtyard garden at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show.

American house and dance music singer and songwriter Crystal Waters, best known for her 1990s dance hits 'Gypsy Woman', '100% Pure Love', and 2007's 'Destination Calabria' with Alex Gaudino. In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked her as one of the most successful dance artists of all time. Her accolades include six ASCAP Songwriter awards, three American Music Award nominations, an MTV Video Music Award nod, four Billboard Music Awards and twelve No. 1 Billboard Dance Chart hits. Her hit song 'Gypsy Woman' has been sampled hundreds of times.

American country singer and songwriter Dierks Bentley. His studio albums have accounted for 27 singles on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, of which 18 have reached No. 1.

Born in 1965 - Bjork

Icelandic singer, songwriter, actress, record producer, and DJ. Bjork Gudmundsdottir, noted for her distinct voice, three-octave vocal range, and eccentric public persona. She was a member of The Sugarcubes whose 1987 single 'Birthday' was a hit on US and UK indie radio stations. Björk embarked on a solo career in 1993, and several of Björk's albums have reached the top 20 on the Billboard chart. Bjork has had over 30 singles reach the top 40 on pop charts around the world. Her accolades and awards include the Order of the Falcon, five BRIT Awards, and 16 Grammy nominations (including nine in the Best Alternative Music Album category, the most of any artist).

Born in 1979 - Scott Robinson

Scott Robinson, vocals, with English boy band Five, who had the 1998 UK No.2 single 'Everybody Get Up' and the 1999 UK No.1 single 'Keep On Movin'. Their single 'When the Lights Go Out', (1998) became an international hit, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, No. 4 in the UK, and within the top ten of six further countries.

Born in 1949 - Alan Paul

American Grammy Award-winning singer and composer Alan Paul, best known as one of the founding members of the second version of Manhattan Transfer, formed in 1972 who had the 1977 UK No.1 'Chanson D'amour' and the 1981 US No.7 single 'Boy From New York City'.

November 24th

Born in 1962 - John Squire

English musician, songwriter and painter John Squire best known as the guitarist for the Stone Roses, one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Stone Roses released their eponymous debut album in 1989. The album was a breakthrough success for the band, receiving widespread critical acclaim, and is regarded by many as one of the greatest British albums ever recorded. After leaving the Stone Roses, he went on to found the Seahorses and has since released two solo albums. In late 2023, he worked with Liam Gallagher (of Oasis and formerly of Beady Eye) on a collaborative studio album, which was released in 2024.
