Kylie Minogue scored her 10th No.1 album in the UK with her seventeenth studio album Tension II. In doing so, she became the only female artist to have secured chart-topping LPs in five consecutive decades. In Australia, It became Minogue's eighth No.1 studio album, her fifth consecutive No.1, and her ninth No.1 album overall in the country. The album also debuted at No.1 on the Official Vinyl UK Albums Chart.

 Simon Le Bon was born in 1958

English singer-songwriter Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran. Emerging as one of the most successful bands of the New Romantic scene in the early 1980s, they scored the 1983 UK No.1 single 'Is There Something I Should Know', plus have had over 25 other UK Top 40 singles. Their third album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, became their only UK No.1 album and featured the US and UK No.1 single 'The Reflex'. In 1985, the band topped the US charts with the single 'A View to a Kill' from the soundtrack of the James Bond film of the same title. Le Bon was also a member of its offshoot Arcadia, who had the 1985 UK No.7 single 'Election Day'. Le Bon went to Pinner County Grammar School, the same school that Elton Johnattended some years earlier. He has received three Ivor Novello Awards, including the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. He also received an MBE in 2024.

Tracy Chapman's 35-year-old song 'Fast Car' was named both song and single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville. The awards recognised a cover version by Luke Combs, which reached No.2 in the US. This also marked a long overdue milestone: Chapman became the first black songwriter to win Song of the Year in the ceremony's 57-year history.

Sixty years after 'From Me to You' topped the charts, Sir Paul McCartney said: "It's blown my socks off!" Its first bars were written by John Lennon in 1978, and the song was finally completed last year.

Ray Charles went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Georgia On My Mind', a No.24 hit in the UK. His cover of Hoagy Carmichael's 1930 standard, became the first of three No.1 hits for the singer. In 1979, the State of Georgia designated Ray Charles' version the official state song and the song has become part of the Great American Songbook tradition.

Born in 1945 - Frida Lyngstad

Swedish singer, songwriter Anni-Frid Lyngstad (born in Bjørkåsen, Norway), from ABBA. Their first UK hit was the 1974 No.1 single 'Waterloo', followed by 8 other UK No.1 singles and 9 UK No.1 albums. ABBA are one of the best-selling music artists of all time and is ranked as the third best-selling singles artist in the United Kingdom, with a total of 11.3 million singles sold. In 1967, Frida won the Swedish national talent competition, New Faces, winning a recording contract with EMI Sweden. After the break-up of ABBA, she continued an international solo singing career with mixed success, releasing the albums Something's Going On (1982) and Shine (1984); the latter being her last international album. In 1996, Lyngstad recorded her final album in Swedish, Djupa andetag (Deep Breaths), before retiring from music.

Born in 1962 - John Squire

English musician, songwriter and painter John Squire best known as the guitarist for the Stone Roses, one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Stone Roses released their eponymous debut album in 1989. The album was a breakthrough success for the band, receiving widespread critical acclaim, and is regarded by many as one of the greatest British albums ever recorded. After leaving the Stone Roses, he went on to found the Seahorses and has since released two solo albums. In late 2023, he worked with Liam Gallagher (of Oasis and formerly of Beady Eye) on a collaborative studio album, which was released in 2024.
