Captain and Tennille started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with the Neil Sedaka song 'Love Will Keep Us Together'. The duo of husband and wife "Captain" Daryl Dragon and Cathryn Antoinette "Toni" Tennille had worked as backup musicians for Elton John and Neil Sedaka.

June 22nd

2013 

'Blurred Lines' by Robin Thicke started a 13 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart. Featuring American rapper T.I. and American singer and producer Pharrell Williams, the video was made in two versions; the first video features models Emily Ratajkowski, Jessi M'Bengue, and Elle Evans being topless, the second features them covered. The topless version of the video was removed from YouTube for violating the site's terms of service regarding nudity, though it was later restored, but flagged as inappropriate. 'Blurred Lines" peaked at No.1 in 14 countries.

June 23rd

1973 

10cc were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Rubber Bullets', the first of three UK No.1's for the band, (who also had a No.1 as Hotlegs).

2007

The White Stripes went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'Icky Thump' the duo's sixth and final studio album. 'Icky Thump' won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2008.

June 25th

1977  

Marvin Gaye went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Got To Give It Up', his third US No.1.

June 26th

1956  was born Chris Isaak

American rock musician and occasional actor Chris Isaak, who scored the 1990 UK No.10 & 1991 US No.6 single 'Wicked Game'. Film director David Lynch, has used his music in numerous films and gave him a large role in the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

June 27th

2009 

Black Eyed Peas went to No.1 on the US album charts with ‘The E.N.D.’ the group’s fifth studio album. The album's lead single, 'Boom Boom Pow' topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks, the second single, 'I Gotta Feeling' replaced 'Boom' and spent 14 weeks at No.1. giving the group 26 consecutive weeks at the top of the charts.

June 28th

2020 

Bob Dylan was at No.1 on the UK chart with his thirty-ninth studio album Rough and Rowdy Ways. At 79-years-old, he was the "most-senior act" to ever top the chart. Rough and Rowdy Ways was the best-selling album in the United States the same week (although it charted at No. 2 behind Lil Baby's My Turn due to streaming and individual track sales) This made it Dylan's highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 in more than a decade. It also marked his seventh consecutive decade of charting top 40 albums, making him the first artist to accomplish this feat.

June 29th

1968 

The Small Faces started a six week run at No.1 on the UK album chart with Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. A concept album with a round cover designed to look like a tobacco tin. The album featured the hit 'Lazy Sunday.'

June 30th

1963 was born Yngwie Malmsteen

Yngwie Malmsteen, Swedish guitarist, songwriter and bandleader. Malmsteen first became known in the 1980s for his neoclassical metal playing style in heavy metal.

July 1st

2000 

Kylie Minogue was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Spinning Around', the singers fifth No.1 was co-written by Paula Abdul, (it was originally intended for Abdul's "comeback" album). 'Spinning Around' gave Minogue the honor of being one of three artists (the others being Madonna and U2) to have a No.1 in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

July 2nd

1988 

Michael Jackson became the first artist to have five number one singles from one album when ‘Dirty Diana’ went to the top of the US charts. The other four chart-toppers from the LP ‘Bad’ were the title track, ‘I Just Can't Stop Loving You’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Man in the Mirror’.

July 3rd

1968 

The Equals were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Baby Come Back'. The group's only UK No.1. The song was first released in 1966 but did not chart. The song was covered by and became a No.1 hit for Pato Banton in 1994, (with Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40).

July 4th

1986 

Run-DMC released their rap version of 'Walk This Way' featuring Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith the group that released the original version in 1975. At shows, Run-DMC had freestyled over the first few seconds of the song on a loop, not knowing what the full song sounded like, or even hearing the lyrics. After recording with Tyler and Perry, Run-DMC did not want the record to be released as a single and were shocked when it was played on both urban and rock radio stations. Both groups got a huge boost when the song became a hit and for Aerosmith, it launched a comeback.

July 5th

2024 

US singer Sabrina Carpenter broke a UK chart record when she became the first female artist to hold both the No.1 and No.2 positions on the singles chart for three consecutive weeks. 'Please Please Please' remained in the top spot on this week's chart, while her previous single "Espresso" held on at No.2. The Beatles achieved the same feat in the 60s, scoring the chart double on two separate occasions.

1963

James Brown went to No.2 on the US album chart with 'Live At The Apollo'. Recorded on the night of October 24, 1962 at Brown's own expense, it spent 66 weeks on the Billboard Albums chart. In 2003, the album was ranked No.24 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Billy Preston started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Will It Go Round In Circles', his first of two US chart toppers.

2007 

Chemical Brothers went to No.1 on the UK album chart with We Are The Night the duo's sixth studio album, (and the band's fifth consecutive album to top the chart). The album won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 50th Grammy Awards.

July 9th

2020 

American rock band Haim were at No.1 on the UK chart with their third studio album Women in Music Pt. III. The album which peaked at No.13 on the US chart was later nominated for Album of the Year at the 63rd Grammy Awards.

July 10th

2005

The four members of Led Zeppelin were voted the UK's ideal supergroup after 3,500 music fans were asked to create their fantasy band for Planet Rock Radio. Jimmy Page won best guitarist, followed by Guns N' Roses' Slash and Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore. John Paul Jones was named top bassist, with John Bonham, who died in 1980, winning best drummer and Robert Plant beat the late Freddie Mercury to best singer.

Ricky Martin started a three week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Livin' La Vida Loca'. A US No.1 for 5 weeks. The song was the first No.1 song to be recorded, edited, and mixed totally on a DAW (digital audio workstation).

July 12th

1986 

Simply Red scored their first US No.1 single with 'Holding Back The Years'. Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall wrote the song when he was seventeen, while living at his father's house. The chorus did not come to him until many years later.

1974 

Elton John started a two-week run at No.1 on the UK album chart with his eighth studio release, Caribou, and his third No.1 album. The album contained the singles, 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me', and 'The Bitch Is Back'.

July 14th

1971 was born Nick McCabe

Nick McCabe, guitarist from English rock band The Verve, who had the 1997 album Urban Hymns, one of the best-selling albums in UK Chart history. The album features the hit singles 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', 'The Drugs Don't Work' and 'Lucky Man'.

'November Rain' by Guns N’ Roses became the first '90s video to pass a billion views on YouTube. The next closest '90s video was ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries, at 739 million.
