Today, October 1st, we celebrate International Music Day. This celebration has been held since 1975, when it was officially proclaimed by the International Music Council (IMC), founded by UNESCO.

This date was promoted by violinist Yehudi Menuhin and composer Boris Yarustowski, aiming to promote musical art throughout society, foster peace and friendship among peoples, and highlight the cultural and educational importance of music.

Typical activities include concerts, conferences, contests, music-related exhibitions, and radio and television programs. It is also common to observe moments of silence during which music is played in public spaces to honor this art.

Although some countries also celebrate other music-related dates, such as November 22 in honor of Saint Cecilia, known as International Musician's Day, October 1 is internationally recognized as International Music Day.
