Today officially begins autumn, one of the four seasons that lasts in the Northern Hemisphere from September 22 or 23 until December 21. Autumn begins at the moment of the autumnal equinox, when day and night are approximately equal in length. After that, the days gradually shorten, and the nights lengthen, until the winter solstice. This is one of two days a year when day and night are of equal length across the Earth. Day and night are of equal length only on the first day of spring.

In meteorological terms, autumn includes the months of September, October and November. It is characterized by lower temperatures compared to summer, more frequent precipitation and changes in nature - leaves begin to turn yellow, and fruits ripen. For agriculture, this is the period of harvest and final work in the fields and orchards.
