Metal Umlaut or Röck Döts

Why dö röck & heävy metäl bänds put umläuts in their nämes ?

A metal umlaut (or röck döts) is a diacritic placed gratuitously over vowels in hard rock and heavy metal band names.

It does not affect pronunciation. Instead, bands use it for primarily to look cool, aggressive, and exotic .

This trend was started by the band Blue Öyster Cult in 1971, and was popularized by greats like Motörhead and Mötley Crüe.
