One Hit Wonder

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking about how we curate playlists, especially for puzzle or focus sessions — and I realized there might be some interesting parallels between playlist design and Letter Boxed-style puzzles.

Just like in a Letter Boxed game, where players connect letters in a meaningful way to form words, I feel a good playlist should connect tracks in a way that feels smooth, logical, and engaging whether it’s for studying, brain training, or focus.

I’m curious if other listeners here also think about playlist flow in a structured way like this. For example:

  • Should tracks be grouped with a specific mood progression (e.g., calm → energetic → chill)?

  • Do you prefer theme-linked songs (e.g., songs with similar vibe or message) even if they’re from different genres?

  • What techniques do you use when building a playlist that keeps you engaged for longer sessions (like studying or creative work)?

I know this isn’t a typical technical feature request, but I thought it could spark some cool discussion on how we think about curating music thoughtfully, almost like solving a puzzle.

Would love to hear your approaches!

To create mood-based playlists on Deezer by using the Flow Moods feature or creating custom playlists use the Flow "Moods" wheel (Love, Workout, Chill, Sad, Focus, Party) to instantly generate infinite, personalized, mood-specific mixes.
For custom, manual, or AI-assisted playlists, use the "Add tracks" feature to curate songs based on specific feelings.

Steps to Create Mood Playlists on Deezer:

Using Flow Moods (Fastest Way):
Open the Music tab and select Flow.
Tap the circle above the song cover to access the moods/genres wheel.
Select a mood: Chill, Workout, Sad, Party, Focus, or Love.
Deezer will generate an infinite mix based on that mood.

While listening, click the three-dot menu icon next to the song title to select "Add to playlist" .

Creating a Custom Mood Playlist:
Go to Favorites -> Playlists -> Create a new playlist.
Name your playlist (e.g., "Chill Vibes", "Workout Energy").
Tap Add tracks and use suggestions to find songs that fit the mood.
Utilize "Genre" or "Mood" filters in search to find relevant music.

Tips for Better Mood Playlists:
Edit Covers: Customize your playlist cover with specific colors or stickers to reflect the mood.
AI Assistance: Use the "Suggested tracks" feature while creating to find songs that fit your vibe.
Mix Genres: Combine different genres to create a unique mood, such as "Lo-Fi Beats" for focus or "Upbeat Pop" for a party.
Update Regularly: Keep your playlist fresh by adding new discoveries from your Flow.

What is Letter Boxed Game !?

Letter Boxed is a free unlimited online word puzzle game inspired by NYT. Connect letters around a square to form word chains in this Wordle-like brain teaser. Challenge yourself to use all letters with as few words as possible, where each word must start with the last letter of the previous word. Perfect for vocabulary enthusiasts and puzzle lovers looking for a daily mental workout.

How to Play Letter Boxed

The rules of Letterboxed are straightforward but provide a satisfying challenge:

  • Connect letters to form words - Create words by connecting letters from around the square.
  • Minimum word length - Each word must contain at least 3 letters.
  • No consecutive letters from the same side - You cannot use two letters from the same side consecutively in a word.
  • Chain your words - The last letter of each word must be the first letter of your next word (e.g., THY → YES → SINCE).
  • Use all letters - Your goal is to use every letter on the board at least once.
  • Solve efficiently - Challenge yourself to solve the puzzle using as few words as possible!

Key Differences:

Function: Deezer Flow is for passive listening and music discovery. A word letterbox game is for active mental engagement.

Content: Flow plays music tracks. A letterbox game involves using letters to form words.
Personalization: Flow learns from your listening history and favorites to improve recommendations. Letterbox games are typically the same for all users that day.

Structure: Flow is an "endless" stream, meant to run for hours. A letterbox game has a defined start and end (win/loss).

Goal: The goal of Flow is to provide a customized soundtrack. The goal of a word game is to solve a puzzle.
In summary, Deezer Flow is a tailored, infinite music experience, while a letterbox game is a specific type of word-based, short-form puzzle game.
