"Macarena" by Los Del Río

"Macarena" is a global pop phenomenon from the 1990s by Spanish duo Los del Río originally recorded for their 1993 album "A mí me gusta". 

 Composed in 1993, the song became a worldwide hit after the Bayside Boys remixed it with an English chorus and an infectious beat. Interestingly, the song is actually about a woman who cheats on her boyfriend with two of his friends while he is in the military.

The song was written by Antonio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruiz after they were inspired by the dance of Cuban dancer Diana Patricia Cubillán at a party in Venezuela. After the release of a remix in 1995, "Macarena" spent 14 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song is accompanied by an iconic choreographed dance that quickly became a staple at parties around the world.

Even though it sold over 11 million copies globally, the group never achieved another mainstream hit. VH1 even ranked it as the No. 1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder of all Time.
