Two legends dropped a surprise on Thursday, November 6: a new version of “Estrellitas y duendes” (Little Stars and Elves), that super poetic classic from Bachata Rosa (1990) by the Dominican maestro.

The wildest part is that Sting decided to sing it entirely in Spanish. He called Juan Luis Guerra’s lyrics “a masterpiece of romantic magical realism” and said that even though his Spanish isn’t perfect, he sang it with all his heart.

Juan Luis was blown away, especially because Sting specifically wanted to sing it in Spanish, which is not easy at all.

They kept the original feel of the song, but now you hear Sting open with: “I will live in your memory like a simple downpour of little stars and elves.”

What a treat to hear that ping-pong of voices!

It’s not their first time together (they performed “Fragile” in 2006), but this time the idea came up while re-recording the track. Sting agreed immediately, what an honor.

They recorded remotely a couple of years ago and recently got together in New York for the video.

Between them, they have a mountain of awards: Guerra with Grammys and Latin Grammys, and Sting with Grammys, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy. Pure musical history.
