Happy May the 4th! Or, as those of us who prefer a lightsaber over an umbrella say: May the Force be with you.

Today isn't just any ordinary Monday (well, technically it is, but in a galaxy far, far away). It’s the day the entire world agrees to admit that we’ve all tried to open automatic sliding doors using nothing but our minds.

The Origin

A British Pun

While it might sound like an ancient prophecy written in Jedi Temples, the origin is actually quite Earth-bound. It all started with a newspaper ad in the UK back in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher won the election. Her party published a notice saying: "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations."

Star Wars fans, never ones to pass up a good pun, hijacked the slogan, and the rest is history (and a lot of merchandising).

A Quick Guide to Surviving the Day

If you don't want to end up looking like a "scruffy-looking nerf herder," follow these basic rules:

  • The Greeting: Don’t say "hello." Say "May the Force be with you" while making a vague hand gesture.

  • The Dress Code: A R2-D2 pin is acceptable for the office. If you show up in a full Darth Vader suit, be prepared for HR to ask why your breathing is so heavy.

  • The Diet: Everything tastes better if it’s Blue Milk. (Pro tip: food coloring and you're officially on Tatooine).

Why Do We Love It So Much?

Beyond the special effects and the Ewoks (who, let’s face it, are just teddy bears with warrior vibes), Star Wars taught us some valuable life lessons:

  1. Never ignore your intuition: If you feel a "disturbance in the Force," you probably left the stove on.

  2. Size matters not: Yoda said it, and he was right. A tiny AI or a small green master can change the fate of the galaxy.

  3. Redemption is always possible: If Vader could return to the Light Side after... well, everything he did, you can certainly bounce back from that email you sent without the attachment.

An Important Reminder

Don't forget that tomorrow is "Revenge of the 5th," the day dedicated to the Sith. So enjoy the Light today, because tomorrow the Dark Side will have cookies (and probably better uniforms).

May the Force (and the coffee) be with you today and always!

Although I’m more a Trekkie than a Star Wars fan, the Star Wars movies and series are great. Who hasn’t seen the old Star Wars movies (4, 5 and 6) or the new series like The Mandolorian, Andor and Ashoka.
