How do you discover new music without affecting your personalized recommendations?

I've been using Deezer for a while and really enjoy the personalized recommendations and Flow feature. However, I also like exploring different genres and artists from time to time.

As someone who runs a Nintendo-focused gaming website and spends a lot of time playing games, I often listen to music while gaming, writing guides, or editing content, so I'm curious how other gamers use Deezer.

A few questions:

  • Do you use separate playlists when exploring new genres?
  • Does listening to completely different music affect your Flow recommendations?
  • Are there any tips for discovering new artists without changing your personalized suggestions too much?
  • Which Deezer features do you use most for finding new music?

I'd love to hear how other Deezer users approach music discovery.

Hi @TomodachiLifeROM !

I'm not a gamer, but I can say something about how to discover new music on Deezer without ruining your personalized recommendations ….

To discover new music on Deezer without ruining your personalized recommendations, you should primarily avoid "hearting" (favoriting) or saving the new tracks to your library, as your likes are the main data the algorithm uses to learn your taste.

1. Use the Flow Tuner
Deezer’s Flow Tuner gives you direct control over your recommendation algorithm. You can access it by playing your Flow, selecting Customize mood, and opening the Tuner. Here, you can actively toggle specific genres on or off or add new ones.

2. Switch to "Discoveries" Mode
Instead of the standard Flow, you can switch it to Discoveries mode. This tells the algorithm you are explicitly looking for new music outside your usual comfort zone, temporarily expanding your horizons without permanently skewing your daily recommendations.

3. Listen via "Mix Inspired by..." Playlists
Head over to your Home tab and look for the "Mix inspired by..." playlists. These are specifically designed by Deezer to blend your current favorites with new tracks the algorithm thinks you will like, making it perfect for safe exploration.
