The Eurovision Song Contest 1979 was the 24th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest,

held  in Jerusalem, Israel

"Dschinghis Khan" is a 1979 Euro-disco hit by the German group of the same name, composed by Ralph Siegel and written by Bernd Meinunger. Representing West Germany, it finished 4th at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 in Jerusalem. Known for its energetic, campy style, the song features lyrics about the Mongol leader’s reputation, sexual abilities, and conquests.

The performance was defined by the theatrical dancing of lead singer Louis Hendrik Potgieter. The song was a major hit in Germany and Japan, later gaining meme status.
A blend of German Schlager and disco, featuring a prominent brass section, dance-oriented beat, and catchy chorus.

Formed in Munich specifically for Eurovision by producer Ralph Siegel, the group consisted of members from Germany, Hungary, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
The song depicts Genghis Khan as a fearsome, legendary figure with themes of drinking and romance ("He fathered seven children in one night").
