Unable to cast from desktop app

Currently, the only way to cast audio to a speaker from desktop is to not use the official app, but to open the website and cast using the browser instead.  The ability to cast audio should be built into the desktop app to prevent the user from needing to use a web browser to access basic functionality / feature parity with mobile.
