It appears that Deezer is trying to hide this issue. The top of the pages says this issue has 214 votes, but when I sort the "Got an Idea?" forum by Most Votes this issue doesn't appear: the list skips from "Hifi Family Plan" at 258 votes to "remote control music on another device" at 198 votes.

@Anja Can you tell us why this issue doesn't appear in the list of highest voted issues?

Hi there @EEAlexHay

I've just searched for it and sorted by number of votes and this topic came on 3rd place. No hiding šŸ˜‰

I do like Deezer, but some of their decisions and technical issues are really putting me off. Gapless. It's 2019. Just sort it out!

Hi Deezer,

Albums like Pink Floyd's iconic Dark Side of the Moon and many dance albums like The Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole have songs that flow into each other and would not have gaps between the tracks when listened to on CD or vinyl. Please can gapless playback be a feature on Deezer? A crossfade option is not the same. We would just like simple, gapless playback from one track to the next. Thank you.

I switched to deezer trying to find an alternative to spotify. Been using the android app for a few months now and I kind of like it despite some minor drawbacks (like more taps required to get to the search bar from some parts of the app). But almost immediately I discovered something shocking that completely shadows everything good deezer has to offer: no gapless playback! Now some albums and radio shows that are designed to be played gapless (so that the next track starts at the same millisecond the previous one ends) now suddenly have 1 second gaps between them. This means that when listening to Toolroom Radio playlist for example, every few minutes the audio stops for 1 second, mid-sentence of the radio host or just disrupting the flow of the beat if the host isn't speaking. Same thing happens with countless of other albums people here have mentioned, like classical music and Pink Floyd.

There has been some confusion here about crossfade and gapless. They aren't the same thing unless you make it so that the zero mark in the crossfade slider actually means zero seconds between the tracks. In the current implementation this is not the case. In my opinion, a better solution would be something like spotify's approach, where there is a tickbox for gapless and a separate slider for crossfade.

I have been waiting patiently for gapless playback to be implemented but now my patience is over. Since 50 % of the music I listen to is intended to be played gapless, I am now forced to go back to spotify. I'm probably coming back to this thread from time to time to see if there are any advancements and if I could switch back to deezer. But until gapless is implemented, deezer has lost yet another customer.

Another rant for the same issue this is starting to get on my nerves.
It is anoying to listen albums that are ment to be continuous music when there is the small pause between each song instead of nice continuous flow like the album is ment to be played.
My example is Mike Oldfields "The songs of distant Earth". This ruins the experience sadly :/

I really have to start thinking to switch the service if they doesn't start to fix trivial things like this.

I posted about this a while back. Deezer has lost me for this very reason. Gapless is a must. For me, deezer is the best music streaming provider going, but until they get gapless I'm, unfortunately, staying with spotify.

Please listen to us, Mr or Mrs Deezer.

Hi there @Slg and all,

The feature is being developed and it's actually already available on Beta for Android.

So I signed up for Beta testing and have updated my deezer app for android (I'm on a Nokia 7+ with android 9) but still can't find the option "gapless playing".
Can you tell me how to turn it on? I just tested it with the best album of all times "Dark side of the Moon" but still no gapless playback between the songs!
Please advise.

Please don't tell me it's the crossfade slider....

@TheFrahes

You're right, I made a mistake. We do have another topic with Gapless and Crossfading in the same comment. Crossfading is being tested, not gapless. It's not ideal, but it's an available workaround.
I'll look into the gapless discussion with our product team and I'll let you know if there are any updates.

I'm pretty sure, as long deezer using junk codecs like mp3 for streaming, there will never ever be gapless playback do technical limitations of mp3 (frame ending).

So if you want gapless playback, switch to other streaming services that provides aac/ogg/flac.
I know that deezer also provide flac, but i think they will not bring gapless playback due feature parity of their apps.

I switched a long time ago, because of all the missing basics and limitations.
@deezer : BTW, it's 2019, not 1978. RIDICULOUS!!

Lack of gapless playback is pretty sad in this day and age. I'm a developer. I know darned well that it can be done (in a desktop app). Deezer is simply choosing not to make it a priority. They've been doing so for a while. Time for me to check out a different streaming service...

The gaps they have now are much longer than a single mp3 frame. An mp3 frame is only 26ms long. There are ways of dealing with that. You could end tracks on the last full frame boundary and start next track in next frame. You'd loose an average of about 1/80th of a second off the end of each track. I'd rather have that than the gaping silences between tracks now. Alternatively, the last frame can be filled with something other than silence -- similar to image smoothing if you will. Yes, you'd be introducing artifacts but I'd rather have 1/100th of a second or so of some clever algorithm's best effort / guess than not. I've seen the quest for perfection cripple developers. "Good" is good enough a lot of the time. Of course, this sort of stuff does take effort, expertise, and time. Then again, it isn't like this problem hasn't already been solved before.
Aside from all that, Deezer has a lot of content in lossless format. They aren't inextricably stuck with mp3.

@Rudi ,

What's the word?

More importantly, can you explain *why* we don't have Gapless, so at least we can understand what we're waiting for? Is it a music rights licensing issue? Is it a lack of skilled programmers to make this a priority? Is it that executives think not enough people care about Gapless to spend the money on development?

Thanks in advance for any transparency you can bring!

-Alex

There is no crossfade in the macOS app. So, there isn't even a workaround.

If you can't see under settings > Deezer Labs, you can still test it by going Beta šŸ˜‰

I guess you missed the bit about macOS? There is no Beta program for the desktop app, at least not at that link.

You're right, @dorcus_maximus, you mentioned Mac, not iOS.
Well, back to the drawing board then! šŸ˜… thank you for the feedback. We're having discussions with our product team so that they can give a clear answer on hot topics like this one. So please bear with us a bit longer and we'll be able to give more info.

As others have mentioned, there are many albums where tracks are connected without silence. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a great example, and I respectfully request that you to listen to just 5 minutes of this album. You will hear a break in the music twice in 5 minutes, as if someone paused the album momentarily. I think if you hear the problem, you will understand our concern. (This is not exactly an obscure album: it spent 15 YEARS on the Billboard Top-200 album sales list!)

...
Thank you,

I just found this thread having come here from listening to DSOTM. Gapless should be default, an option possibly, but not available is crazy!

Just so let you know that I left Deezer for Spotify, two years ago, because of this. That was the sole reason.

I prefer Deezer over Spotify, but I have mostly stuck around because my B&O stereo equipment also prefers Deezer. But this has been ignored long enough that I'm considering selling all my equipment and replacing it with something that allows me to listen to ALL my music. It is simply mind-blowing that this wasn't resolved 5 years ago.
