Why not let Deezer pick up the theme used in OS and sync with it when it changes during the day? Now only Deezer and Teams remain a pair of my apps that don’t support this feature.

As Deezer is Electron-based, not too much dev work is involved. Please refer to:

Hello @Endorphinity

Could you please give me more information on this idea?

I am not sure I understand…

Are you talking about the desktop app? Is it not picking up the mode that you chose on your browser?

Thanks...

They are asking for Deezer to follow the system dark or light mode automatically.

It’s a must have indeed.

Currently, it’s a manual setting, Deezer is either Dark or Light independently from the system switching mode.

I am talking about desktop app which presenty cannot switch its theme in sync with macOS.

Hey @Endorphinity !

Thanks for your idea! This isn't on the plans for now but let's try and get the most votes possible! 💪🏽

Good luck!

NewNot for now

Well, I’ve been rather patient, but what about now, 2 years later?

Hi @Endorphinity! Thanks for your feedback.

Even though this idea was posted a couple of years ago, it only has 5 votes so far, which shows it’s not a highly requested feature.

That said, I’ll pass it along to the team again for consideration.

Keep voting! 💪

Well, maybe it is an unknown fact, but modern versions of macOS for a few years already are installed with auto theme switching by default, and I find it useful. Simple absence of votes may mean that average Deezer for Mac users are either not using auto theme switching or are quite happy with having Deezer standing out of the crowd, be it black window among the rest which are white or vice versa.

Making an app a good citizen on the platform, i.e., corresponding to what users of that platform might expect from the app, is developers’ choice, and not a ‘democracy’ question dependent of number of votes in a community.

Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines is quite clear on this matter, I strongly recommend your developers to refresh their memories:

Best practices

Avoid offering an app-specific appearance setting. An app-specific appearance mode option creates more work for people because they have to adjust more than one setting to get the appearance they want. Worse, they may think your app is broken because it doesn’t respond to their systemwide appearance choice.

Ensure that your app looks good in both appearance modes. In addition to using one mode or the other, people can choose the Auto appearance setting, which switches between the light and dark appearances as conditions change throughout the day, potentially while your app is running.

Finally, this denying of obvious design change looks ridiculous, when the required change has been already provided FOR FREE a long time ago by the framework the app relies on (I mean Electron) and utilized by many apps that also use that same framework.

@Endorphinity just so you know. @Leonídia.Deezer promised us un upcoming better desktop app (still Electron though). There si no reason that with a newer framework auto appearance will be part of it. See:

Thank you @jeremybonan, the reference you’ve provided at least explains me the reason they are not enabling this theme autoswitching which is an ancient version of Electron still being used by Deezer. (UPD No, it turns out this is not the case, as Electron framework supports autoswitching for versions >= 7.0.0. What prevents them then?).

Also, I didn’t pay attention previously now that Deezer is still an Intel app, 3+ years since first Apple Silicon Macs were introduced.

One more discovery, the broken auto-update feature, which I’ve suspected but, as I don’t use Deezer on desktop frequently, it was not bothering me that much. Now I’ve downloaded and installed the latest version, 6.0.290, manually (still had silently sitting 6.0.200 prior to that). And it is the same bunch of aging code.

Version 7.0.1 is out.

No autoswitch (yet?), but Unversal app on macOS and Electron is up to v33.

Hi @jeremybonan! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I’ll pass your feedback about autoswitch to our team.

On the updates side, we’ve made a Universal build that works smoothly on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (just one DMG now).

We’ve also fixed the title bar issue on Windows and improved how downloaded content works.
