Change Deezer streaming codec from MP3 to AAC

Ogg maybe, but it's a no for AAC. It doesn't represent better value from MP3 for the effort required to implement 

I’m a free user so I understand that I’m not exactly a “priority”, but I would love it if Deezer could implement this.

I recently had to abandon Deezer when I realised just how much better the quality on YouTube Music was. I seriously thought I was going deaf using Deezer. To my surprise, I found out that both sites offer 128kbps on the free tier. So naively I thought, they should be the same, right? That’s when I learned about the differences between MP3 and AAC.

It’s a real shame because Deezer is drastically superior to YouTube Music in every other way. But alas, sound quality is more important.

One way they could do that, is to raise 128K to 160K MP3 on Free tiers.

I do not think they will change codec anytime soon.

So 160 on a MP3 is about equivalent to 128 AAC? Interesting.

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d gain much traction here, I just thought I’d leave my two cents.

As their manager said they are not seeing AAC possible. They’d need 70M tracks to encode.

If that ever happens, they will write out.

If you extremely need free music with best quality, I see that 128K MP3 may not be the best offer.

I tested Hifi Deezer and it sounds better on Hifi on same earpieces. I think it’s because MP3 320K gets re-encoded at loss to AAC bluetooth codec. This said I see that people asking 320K AAC just to avoid that layer. For me I am not going back to non-HiFi service just because of that. Even on Sony high quality €129 Bluetooth no wires earphones the improvement in sound is decent.

MP3 320K sounds muddy and not clear at all . I feel like on AAC 320K it is much easier to get lyrics and that hype tracks has to provide. There was one or few words I couldn’t hear on Deezer MP3 and now I totally get them when AAC 320K makes the clarity. I do not listen FLAC is it takes too much of my internet and I do not want to have slow internet when it loads flacs all time.

I think, perhaps, they really need to look into it. Sound is what customers seem to want.

The MP3 is good for my dog, one reviewer on YouTube said and I actually laughed.

But now I know why he said that. AAC and FLAC is the future .

The MP3 audio sounds very good, as if LAME 3.100 encoding had been used; it is really transparent.
