Please give PC users the option to re-locate/change storage location for downloaded music.
It’s really quite simple. I think that a PC (or any user really) should have the option to set the storage location for downloaded music to a folder of their choosing on a drive of their choosing.
The reason being many PC users have relatively small Solid state drives that are mainly used for OS/Games for quick load times. We typically like to keep those SSDs clean and clutter free, storing music, photos and other things of a simple non software nature on a separate drive like a large external drive.
As it stands, Deezer forces all the downloaded music onto my main Drive, as in the one with my OS and games on it...there is no option to set a different location and I think that would be a pretty solid addition for PC user especially. To clarify, I’m not looking for a way to decrypt the music, or play it through a different media player or anything like that. I don’t care if I don’t even have access to the actual folder as long as I can decided WHERE the folder will occupy it’s space...namely, set storage to my external drive.
Thank You.

All downloaded songs are stored in the same location as the app and there is no way to change this as Deezer is a streaming service and the songs can't be separated from the app.
Allow users to change the music downloads directory.
My SSD is only 120GB, and contains only my operating system. All of the default windows directories are located on my 3TB hard drive, yet Deezer insists on saving everything on my C: drive. This causes my entire computer to be unusably slow because SSDs slow down the more you have on them.
Why? I shouldn’t have to buy a new SSD every 6 months because the desktop app forces you to download everything to your C drive, and I shouldn’t have to pay more for my internet each month because everything is being streamed over it, ON TOP of my deezer subscription!
If deezer is encrypting music as required by licensing agreements, then there should be no problem allowing users to move the directory. If deezer is hiding the downloads directory so they don’t have to encrypt their music, then they have a major security flaw and should not have gotten any licensing agreements in the first place.
Spotify allows users to change the default download directory while keeping the music files encrypted, and if Deezer is going to cost me upwards of $50/month because of the requirement of streaming, or break my components and cost me well over $200 to replace them, then I’ll be left with no choice but to cancel my subscription and go back to spotify.
At the very least set the default download location to the windows Music folder so it can be moved to another drive.
Hi there @Robert.DeJong
Thank you for your support and detailed feedback - I've moved your comment here so that you can improve and support an existing idea
Same here.
I keep my user data on my SSD, but bulky files eventually will have to go to my storage HDD.
iTunes & Spotify allows this.
I am in the 3 month trial period of Deezer and really like it. But I will most likely walk away if there is no plan to fix this.
Thanks for letting us know and for your vote @Necaltarae, really appreciate it. Hopefully we can develop this in the near future
Just voted, thanks to the link @Rudi
Other add that I have to say is to relocate cache but not in the same place as downloads. So we can put cache on ram (in Linux is with tmpfs) and downloads in our HDD(not the ssd ones)
Hello @Alblinux, can you explain why you make this suggestion, out of curiosity?
Hello @Alblinux, can you explain why you make this suggestion, out of curiosity?
I have a laptop, only having one ssd is good to have the ability to ,at least, change the location of cache to another site for example one mounted on ram that avoid writes and reads in the disk . When you restart your systems all the cache is erased so it's not the recommended behaviour but .. it's a option I had in Spotify. The downloads nevertheless went inside my home folder that is on the ssd on the laptop and I'm the HDD on the desktop (but the system itself and apo on both runs on a ssd)
Linux offers many possibilities of you know what you can do. It's why I am using it. I think in windows is possible too but I have not many ideas of how to do it.
Thank you @Alblinux for elaborating on this suggestion, that’s really interesting
Huge bump on this. Seems like a really basic feature which I would expect to have for app which download huuuuge music files in lossless quality.
Anyway, until it is officially added, I’ve managed to overcome it by using symlink (@deezer sorry for this small hacking but it is the only solution I could come up with)
For anyone who want to do it here is the guide:
Create folder on a drive you want to store deezer cache/downloaded music, save the path.
Optional. Copy content of %AppData%\deezer-desktop to newly created folder
Close deezer app if it is open. Delete %AppData%\deezer-desktop folder.
Open windows command line interface and create symlink to new folder via command:
mklink /D %AppData%\deezer-desktop F:\Music\DEEZER_CACHE (replace F:\Music\DEEZER_CACHE with path you created on step 1)
5. Enjoy your deezer app and clean system drive :)
Also make sure that the path from step 1 exists or deezer will crash on startup.
Hey @Demidchuk Mikhail
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and a step-by-step guide for Windows users of our desktop app - I've shared them with our devs as well, as I know it isn't ideal in these circumstances. But the community is a space for everyone so we welcome your initiative
yes yes, please! I use Deezer Hifi, and downloading it onto my teeny SSD is going to be too much! Please give us the option to change the offline files to another drive for management.
Hello I’m a new member as well, I’m starting a 4 month trial, leaving GPM since it’s closing soon. So far I’m happy with what I see, but the downloads on the main SSD is indeed something that’s a little annoying. Little bump because I hope this gets implemented!
Cheers, Lama
Thanks a lot for supporting this, Lama @Llamasticot I personally would like this as well, let's get more votes here!
I have the same issue as everyone else here i.e. I don’t want music taking up space on my SSD when I have an HDD for this kind of data.
Yes, fair enough. This should be an option for our app, definitely @mrvsensible - so I'll pass your comments to our devs, it's our job to keep pushing for these useful features
@Rudi do you have more information now? Is this feature part of the roadmap?
Also there doesn’t seem to be any workaround.
Deezer App still installs on my main drive, even though I changed the windows settings to save new apps on my secondary drive. Settings (win+i) > Storage > Change where new content is saved > New apps will save to: secondary drive
Why is deezer still installed on my main drive?
Yes, it can be encrypted but they should give us the option to set where we want to keep the files. Maybe your local storage depends on 2 or more HDD / SSD, so if one is almost full, let us change to the other.
My vote!
Bringing this up again. Such an important feature for people with smaller SSDs. We just want the option to change the download location as the HIFI files can get really heavy quite quickly and eat up ALL of the SSD
Yes, thats important for any user with limited space on drive C:!
Even with my 1 TB storage my cache grows from day to day.
On Android it’s no Problem to change the location.
Please add this essential setting for Windows!
Thanks you.
btw: Nice app! Good job! :-)
Hi All,
For anyone stumbling here because this is the first google result, there is a way to move the whole Deezer app to another drive. This moves all downloads too. It was suggested in this thread by @Ecoxis sand further clarified by @WhoCares
Thank you both!
@Darak
Nice thx a lot :)
So easy when we know it !
Better than waiting for the “select downloading directory” ...
Would you have a clue how to do this on Windows 7?
I’ve already tried adjusting the installation path in the registry, but Deezer still installs on C:\
Any help would be appreciated! (I really wonder why the community has to suss basic issues like this out by themselves)
All downloaded songs are stored in the same location as the app and there is no way to change this as Deezer is a streaming service and the songs can't be separated from the app.
yeah? you can change the download location with spotify. and with steam. and with *ANYTHING* else
