Our new Queer culture channel has landed! And it's here to stay!

Queer culture deserves to be celebrated all year round, not just during Pride month. That's why we’re proud to launch Deezer’s new “Queer Culture” channel, which will be a permanent fixture on our platform :sparkles:

We want to bring fans the top music, podcasts and audiobooks from the queer community and to bring attention to queer artists and creators like Kehlani, Janelle Monae and others

The channel will be regularly updated with the very latest content from queer talent worldwide. Fans can explore a range of editorial playlists like “Queer Icons” and “The new generation of artists.” Here they can listen to long-standing champions of the community or discover new queer artists. For a mixture of tracks, our ‘Celebrate queer music’ playlist covers the likes of drag music, vogue and LGBTQ moods. We’ve also given a dedicated home to soundtracks for TV shows and movies that brought queer culture to the masses like ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’, ‘It’s A Sin’ and ‘Pose’ :tv:

Check this amazing new channel out and post your favourite queer icon here to earn our Pride community badge! :rainbow_flag:

I enjoy listening to music regardless of the artist's sexuality.

That's why I can't name a gay artist.

But I think it's great that artists stand up for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lady Gaga, for example.

Will i still get the badge?

I don’t think of any gay artist I listen. I do not know one.

I am one guy myself liking other guys and I feel pride all year long is going too far. Please keep it in little moderation, I don’t need Pride weeks to live. Those who accept, nice. Those who don’t, that’s fine too. We have rights and are open to chat about stuff. Is Pride gone in life a bit too far?

People should be themselves, even those who doesn’t fit this category.

Music I listen to relax, not to remind me about casual topics.

Many gays they do not need Pride weeks to live. Someone's does not accept and that’s fine. Pride actually can make us feel bad as we are always on the table in life. Let us live, world.

No pride needed, respect… and there’s no need to run campaigns about it all year long.

Hey @hpguru,

I fully agree with you! :relaxed:

Thank you Deezer for making the Queer Channel and that it’ll be updated into the future.

I can especially recommend the It's a Sin playlist (from a TV show on Channel 4 in the UK and written by Russel T Davies). To anybody who lived through those times, it was filled with amazing culture (and so dated now looking back lol), banging tunes (Culture Club, Sylvester, Bronski Beat, Hazel Dean, Sinitta, Wham and Divine - the peak of Hi-NRG and forerunner of techno/rave) but incredible sadness and a fear for life. The show covers the ‘gay disease’ as they called it then and called HIV now, a time when rampant homophobia went to new heights, through ignorance and fear. I lost about 30 friends & work colleagues who ‘went home’ never to be seen again. It’s a powerful show, filled with fun and sadness  with the supremely talented Olly Alexander (Years & Years) who shows off his excellent skills as an actor.

Pride throughout the years has been a great help to many people. It’s raised a visibility that it’s good to love who you want, and sadly this is still needed, although I agree with some sentiments that it stays in moderation. To the ordinary LGBTQ+ person, Pride is not a political movement, it’s showing that there are other people who are the same and that they too can achieve the same as their idols. There is still a need for it and probably will be for my remaining years. I know for a fact that (and I live in quite a liberal minded town) if I walked hand in hand with someone of the same sex, I’d probably get jumped and beaten up or at the very least whispered comments spoken loud enough to be heard. Would that happen if a man and woman did the same? Of course not.

Having a Queer Channel on Deezer (Apple Music have also excelled themselves this year too) just lets younger people know that some of the musical talent they look up to are gay, or a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. It raises visibility that you can be yourself and to ask questions. Coming out is a scary and a potentially dangerous experience. For many of course, friends and family are supportive and that is improving in many cultures.

To those who celebrate the colour and vibrancy of Pride each June, have an amazing time. To those who don’t, you too have a fantastic month. Respect. Acceptance. Love. Oh, and GaGa….

Edit: I had to add Freddie Mercury too, the ultimate rock star!

Thank u so much, @RysterUK

For sure, I am always going to be me

Music on Deezer is so Pride positive!

I added whole album to my collection, this track gave me a hand!

It’s needed, the positive vibe to be you on your Deezer.

That's exactly what it's ALL about @RysterUK you got the point! I highlighted your post :relaxed:

It's just a channel @hpguru, a section of our catalogue, it isn't content "pushed" to users all year round.

You still get the badge @dee_dirk (but just because it's Gaga)

You still get the badge @dee_dirk (but just because it's Gaga)

→ You are very generous, holy Godfather. :joy:

It's nice that artists who are members of the lgbtqia+ community are being celebrated in Deezer.  I've seen a clip of Lil Nas X's interview on Jimmy Fallon's show and even though he already came out as gay, there was still hesitance in his voice to talk about his sexuality openly.  It's one thing to come out, and another to actually talk about it in a public interview because that's still the reality of the world we live in today.  I hope that someday, a time will come when this is no longer a non-issue anywhere in the world.  People should be able to love whoever they love shamelessly.

Will these acts appear in regular searches? My feeling is positive highlighting now, I'm music blind, if it sounds good, just enjoy it.

Have a look at the channel and let me know if anyone catches your attention, then post their track here @DrEvil :relaxed:
