Yet another dangerous driving problem.

So after struggling with an MS0004 error and having to delete cache, uninstall app, restart phone, reinstall app 4 times. I finally manage to get the app installed and working only to find that now if I exit the app, the music continues to play and I can only stop it by accessing my notification bar. Seriously??

I use Deezer mainly whilst driving and like my previous topic asking why we can't have an option for an always on screen (which we still don't have I believe) unlike Spotify), which for me is a problem because if a song plays that I don't know and want to know, I have to use my fingerprint to unlock my phone and get my screen on so that I can identify the track. Taking my attention off the road and here in the UK breaking the law as you are not allowed to touch a mobile device whilst driving, even if you are stationary and have an idling engine. It's illegal.

If the screen is on whilst I'm driving I can merely glance at the screen and identify the track, a very very simple and safe QoL solution.

Now this music continuing to play adds another safety concern because I would now have to access the notification area and swipe right to stop the music from playing or to pause the music.

This may not be a problem for most folk but I think it shows a complete lack of thought and leaves me wondering who thinks (or does not think) about usage and safety on the development team.

Are any of these idea put out there to the user's before they go live? Do they have drivers evaluating and feeding back to development team.

I hate comparing Deezer to Spotify (whom I was with for over 6 years) and my frustration is because I do love Deezer and I believe it has the potential to be far better than Spotify. It mixes music better, apparently they pay artist better (one of my 2 reasons for swapping over), their podcast are better, though I will say it's errors are far more frustrating  to deal with for some reason but it's little things like the aforementioned issues that just make me shake my head and wonder why?

Please, with a little bit of thought and some options you can make the app safer to use for drivers. It's little things like that, that make a difference.

The first thing I do when I get in my car is put Deezer on but I won't listen to anything other than my own playlists so that I'm not tempted to touch my phone to see who is playing.

And now, with this new things going on, it's a problem because my screen turns off and the app drops into memory, so in order to stop the music if I have to, I will need to access the notification bar.

It's a problem and I genuinely hope you will recognise it as being so.

You have the capacity to make it work better for all users.

Hello @The W'o'anderer

If you just exit the app music will continue playing, it is a normal behaviour!

If you want to close the app completely, you need to first PAUSE the music and then exit the app.

To avoid all the dangerous problems you are describing while driving, Deezer is compatible with a range of car speakers, entertainment systems and devices.

https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115003867945-Deezer-Connected-devices-Cars

So you don’t have to use your mobile while driving.

Your response has totally dismissed the issue and in a way is telling me there is no problem.

We (I) never had to pause the music before in order to exit the app completely so this so called normal behaviour does not sit with me, this only happened to me in the past few days because I kept getting an MS0004 error and could not play my music. I had to reinstall 4 times and upon finally getting the app to work and exiting in my normal usual method found this 'feature'.

I just reinstalled Spotify and exiting the app stops the music completely resulting in me touching my device less.

By exiting the app I mean selecting the square (in Android) and swiping the app away from memory. The music stops in Spotify but does not in Deezer (it used to in Deezer)

The reason I do this is because as I mentioned before, my screen goes off and the app goes into memory so rather than have to call the app up again and find the pause button and then close the app again, it is safer for me to select the square and swipe the app away.

Due to driving a lot I sometimes find myself in places that require my full attention and I prefer to exit my music app completely and allow my navigation app to take preference. Hence my behaviours and why this has become such an issue for me. Sometimes Deezer controls show in my navigation app sometimes they don't. Spotify though.... Always shows.

In my car I use a Sony MEX-N6002BD car stereo and I connect via a Sony Xperia 1mach ii mobile device all via Bluetooth. I can skip tracks on my stereo which is not illegal and I can answer my phone via the stereo, giving me my hands free option. There is no pause button or stop button though.

I also have my Wireless Bluetooth Sony setup in my house via a Sony HT-CT260

I drive an older car that does not have a modern entertainment system but in order to make things as compatible as possible I have my Sony setup so that my devices all work together with minimal concerns.

Unfortunately your response leaves me realising there is no confirmation that this can and does cause a problem for some users and that there is unlikely to be any solution in the future, so realistically and logically, knowing now, since I've reinstalled Spotify, that Spotify exits the app completely, which truth be told is not actually a problem BECAUSE Spotify keeps my screen on whilst I'm plugged in and driving meaning my app does not drop into memory. (Go Figure huh)

So sadly I now have the arduous task of transferring my family and their playlists back over to Spotify.

My mom will be happy as Deezer has never worked on her device anyway.

I am really saddened though because I really really dislike the guy who owns Spotify, but cannot deny that their service works and have to acknowledge that in the past they did bend over backwards to help sort out issues. I truly dislike the fact they they believe they can pay artists less because they fund new artist programs, it's despicable but I'd rather pay people who acknowledge problems rather than dismiss them and they always did.

In closing....

Please understand that I fail to see any logic in why your service does this and the other service (Spotify) does not.

I fail to see what benefit it brings to any user. Maybe you can enlighten me, I truly hope so.

I am not trying to be horrible with that response, I value logic even though I recognise logic is not always an answer but I have spent some time trying to figure out how this 'feature' would benefit anyone, I really really cannot find any reasonable answer.

Anyway.

My response is long and detailed and I apologise for that.

I shall leave it at that and go and start transferring every back to Spotify.

Truly gutted

You have a point about the toggle for always on screen, Marvis for iOS & AM has this, and we really need that.

The rest though is not an issue, all music Apps across the spectrum and on both Android and iPhone will continue to play when you leave App presence unless you specifically force close. That is how they work, and all the typing and complaining in the world will not change that, it is a basic behavior of music Apps.

Ah, he says he left anyway, I have a feeling hitting play/pause was too much for the little guy. ;)

Hi

Just thought I'd clarify on your questionable response.

I drive a lot and use Google Maps to get to where I need to be... I play music (Spotify Now) whilst driving.

In the past it was, of course... Deezer.

If I got to a place where I needed to concentrate I would hit the square menu on my android device and swipe Deezer out of memory and the music would stop allowing me to focus on directions. Simple.

To do what you say would require me to minimise Maps and then select Deezer and then pause the music and then reopen Maps or

Hit the Square navigate to and select Deezer press Pause hit the square again navigate to and reselect Maps.

Not quite as easy as just swiping it away which you could easily do before the update.

And something you can still do with Spotify to this very date. I know this because I showed my Sister before responding to you.

So your response holds no gravity when you say that No Other App does that.

You are very wrong.

With Deezer. If you hit that Square android option and all the apps show and you swipe Deezer away, it still continued to play and you would then have to pull down from the top of your screen to get the drop down menu and swipe Deezer away in that to get the music to stop.

Which is as many processes as minimising Maps and then selecting Deezer and then pausing the music and then minimising Deezer and opening Maps again blah blah blah.

For safety reasons.

I would prefer to have as little selections as possible so that I may concentrate.

If you went straight to the drop down menu and removed Deezer from there, it would still continue playing music and you would still have to select the square android button and swipe it out of memory there.

Still less selection than the method you would propose.

There was no way around this.

Deezer never used to do this before.

This may have now changed in the year since I have left Deezer.

So thank you for your response. But kindly do your research before offering information that is simply not true so that any subtle slur you add to your response retains the impact you intended it to have and gives credibility to your actions.

Enjoy your music

Sincerely

The Little Guy

Oh... Spotify has a pause button within Maps now, so I now find pressing pause is not too much for me 😉 At the time of writing my original complaint, Deezer did not have that option.

And a little side note.

My mother can now play music on her device. She could not at all with Deezer.

My daughter is over the moon as Deezer was not working for particular device, I can't remember what it was though.

My Wife is finding it easier to play her music without those strange errors and the music suddenly just stopping....

And I am driving a little more safely and still enjoying my music with an always on screen…

My entire family gets what I pay for 👍

Thanks Spotify 😉
