Why does music playback not stay in sync across devices?

I’m currently looking for a new go-to app to get off Spotify for all the reasons people should leave Spotify, but the thing that’s killing me with virtually all of them is how poorly they play across platforms.

If I’m listening to a song on the Spotify app and then sit down at my laptop, I can pick right up where it left off and then send it to my receiver and then pick it up from either of those devices and it’s all seamless. Apple Music utterly fails in this area, and Deezer is barely better: it tells me what song I’m listening to but now where in the song I am, so if I want to switch devices I have to start the song over or manually move the playhead which is a deeply stupid design made infinitely more infuriating by the “This is why your music stopped playing” notification that shows up every single time as though that isn’t exactly the behavior I’m looking for. (The notification makes me irrationally angry.)

So I guess my questions are “Why is this so dumb?” and “Is there any chance it will be not dumb?”
