If I’m listening to “Shuffle my music”, how does toggling “Automated recommendations” on/off affect what comes up in the queue. Please be specific!

Hi @Keelsford,  in response to your question, Deezer will give you automatic recommendations to get to know new artists, so it won't affect you to have it on or off if you don't want to know new music options.

Please let me know if this clarifies your question😉

Thanks Carlos, but sorry I’m not following your response.

“Deezer will give you automatic recommendations to get to know new artists”. How so? By mixing new artists into the queue or some other way?

“so it won’t affect you to have it on or off if you don’t want to know new music options” I don’t get this at all since just before this you said Deezer will give recommendations. So how is it not affecting me?

Sorry again. Please clarify.

Yes, if you leave it active you will receive recommendations, if you deactivate it you will not receive recommendations. Therefore it will not affect you if you deactivate it since Deezer will not recommend you anything new according to your preferences. It depends on your configuration:

- Personalized recommendations
Deezer recommends music you might like in the Home tab. You can also customize your notification preferences to receive recommendations for the content you like the most.

- Notifications of new releases
If you select the “Artists I like” notification on the Notification Preferences page, you will receive a notification when one of your favorite artists releases a new album.

Check this link, you will find there what I have mentioned: https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360004367258-Exclude-An-Artist-Or-Track-From-Deezer-Recommendations

Can you please clarify what it means to “receive recommendations”? I originally thought that meant adding songs to my queue from artists/albums that are not favorited. But I’m hearing you say that it’s about recommendations on the Home tab.

I also don’t understand the relevance of the link you shared. It’s for managing exclusions which previously wasn’t mentioned.

The only thing left to do is to follow the link I send you, there you can guide yourself on how to configure what kind of recommendations you want to receive, those will not be added directly to your artist queue, you are the one who add the songs to your favorite artists or albums queue, Deezer only gives you recommendations.

I feel like I’m getting trolled

Hi @Keelsford Great question! And also thank you, @Carlos L. Bernard for the help.

@Keelsford when you're listening to "Shuffle my music" on Deezer, toggling the "Automated recommendations" option on or off can change how the queue behaves:

  1. With "Automated recommendations" ON:
When enabled, Deezer will use its algorithms to suggest songs based on your listening history and preferences. So, even if you're shuffling your music, the app may recommend tracks it thinks you'll enjoy, expanding the variety of what's played in the queue beyond just the shuffled tracks from your library.

  2. With "Automated recommendations" OFF:
If you turn off automated recommendations, Deezer will only shuffle the music from your library (like playlists, albums, or tracks you've saved). No outside recommendations will be injected into the queue, so the shuffle will stick strictly to your own collection.

In short, turning "Automated recommendations" on can introduce new tracks to your shuffle, while turning it off keeps the shuffle within your own saved music.

Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you need more details. 😊

Think you for explaining clearly. Makes sense. This is what I assumed but I’m not seeing many non-favorites so I wasn’t sure and wanted to make sure. Thanks again.

If you mean the switch for “Automated recommendations” in the upper right corner of the play queue in the desktop app and web player, it automatically adds similar tracks to the playlist or album that you have just listened to till the end. So it works like a playlist and/or album radio in this case:

Deezer Cloud-Based Queue List – Deezer Support

Note: The cloud-based queue list feature is not available to Deezer Free users”

“You will require iOS version 7.7.0 or higher or Android version 6.0.6.60.”

“Note: This feature is on by default and can only be changed on desktop”
