Plans for better last.fm integration for desktop apps?

One Hit Wonder

Hello! As the title suggestions, I was wondering if Deezer is in charge of the last.fm integrations, and if so if there will be updates to real time scrobbling and track recognition (currently still seeing the “&” not being recognized at times)? I’m switching over from Spotify, and had great access to accurate data keeping while using it, but noticed the Deezer desktop app doesn’t do “scrobbling now”. I have a plugin for web that works great for Deezer, but I desperately want to just use the desktop app. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The internal scrobbling option of Deezer does not provide “Scrobbling now” on your Last.fm profile, as it works differently from a standard integration via the Last.fm API. I assume it had been implemented by an external developer a long time ago, and current Deezer developers cannot and/or don’t have enough time to change that, same for the known issues of missing ampersands or additional track info in brackets. Also the Deezer API might not provide the info about the currently playing track, so it is not possible to implement the standard Last.fm API method, just guessing. As a Last.fm Pro user you could fix your Deezer scrobbles in your library though and also enable the auto-edit option for future scrobbles.

If you want to use the Deezer desktop app and be notified about your current track, you could enable this in the Display settings of your Deezer account. It will show for about five seconds in the lower right corner of the desktop screen:

“Now playing” on the Windows desktop screen.

If you are on Discord, you could use the Music Presence desktop app which supports many local media players and streaming sites including Deezer:

“Now playing” on Discord with Music Presence.

The developer is currently testing a scrobbling option in the beta version of Music Presence, so that will probably fix the known issues of the Deezer integration as well.

Hi @itsdulek as you mentioned, the desktop app might not show what is currently playing and tracks often scrobble only after they have finished or when the next track begins.
I am not aware of any extra integration currently, but will let you know if this changes on 2026.
Thanks
