I suppose we are getting to the point where Deezer subscribers are now jumping ship. Surely they must see that this situation must somehow be resolved between Deezer and Logitech Media Server to make this streaming service work for a GREAT many paying subscribers who listen to Deezer this way.
I tried to submit a post on Sunday but the Deezer Moderators blocked me posting my comments of the conversation I had with one of their support agents…...they have not contacted me yet to give me the reasons for this action.
I await with bated breath.

I do find the lack of engagement from Deezer community managers to be appalling. The last official message was 21 days ago then complete radio silence. What’s happening Deezer, is customer service being sacrificed in an effort to try and find your elusive profits?
As far as I know the point is that Deezer did not give the API for LMS integration.
Spotify and Qobuz did, that’s why it’s ok
At this stage in the game you would think that Deezer would keep us updated by using the UPDATES link at the top of the Deezer Community heading.
The one thing that worries me is I don’t think Deezer have the trained staff with the technical knowledge to be able to engage with us regarding the issue that they find them self’s in.

Same here…
I have been a long time Deezer user and would love to stay with Deezer…. if i can play the music on my squeezeboxes.
Please Deezer work with the community that maintains the logitech media server to develop a Deezer plugin that can work without mysqueezebox.com.
The community can be reached here:

All the best,
Manuel
Pandora plugin has been created with initial success. Tidal plugin also started with some success. Both will be worked on by smart people in the LMS developer community. Extra features have already been added to both.
Which plugin has had no work started?
Deezer.
I have been trying Qobuz and Spotify with LMS and both work very well. I would recommend other Squeezebox / LMS users to switch. Like many audiophiles on here, we would prefer to stay using Deezer, but given the fact that Deezer login is no longer supported via LMS, it makes sense to abandon Deezer forever. It’s a shame because I originally chose Deezer as it had the best cross platform device support but that is no longer the case.
Deezer. Please help philippe44 code an LMS plugin.Provide him the support needed for each LMS server to authenticate its own connection so we can use LMS with Deezer.

Hello @Jophus @t1no @coypu @Pascal9 @Zayn Belmonte unfortunately what our user @Innocent is true.
Nevertheless is important to highlight that Logitech discontinued the Squeezebox platform back in 2012 and it is through a custom media server that was create after, that several apps managed to keep working like Deezer.
Our teams are currently looking if there is any possibility to bring Deezer back, however, I don’t want to give any falses hopes that it will happen.
So please stay tuned and keep an eye here and on Logitech forums, as there may be a workaround available. We will inform our users if there’s any official method to use Deezer again on Squeezebox.
@Leonídia.Deezer ... thanks for your feedback... hope there is a way to continue the Deezer / mysqueezebox.com login. The fact of the matter is that a lot of us have built up an ecosystem of hifi hardware, devices and software with Deezer as our chosen streaming service. We like Deezer because it used to have strong support across many devices, is high quality, and just worked. Now if a streaming service no longer works the route of least resistance is to change the streaming service to one that does rather than obsolete perfectly good hardware, especially if we have invested the most amount of money in a Squeezebox / LMS hifi system. The Squeezebox platform still offers many other possibilities e.g. Qobuz, Spotify so these unfortunately are the obvious alternatives.
Hi Leonidia,
At Last we have some input from Deezer…….better late than never.
Could you please elaborate on “if there’s any official method to use Deezer again on Squeezebox.” I assume you are implying security issues, and does Deezer have the technical expertise to implement to this.
I’m sure the very clever people at Logitech could help you with this if you engage with them.
cheers

Hi @Cedzerosept thanks for sharing that link from the French Community. I have just shared it with our product team.
Thanks tooo @Ti No I do understand that many users have been building through these years an ecosystem to hardware and software to get the best audio and video quality.
@coypu about your question, yes, it is refereeing to security issues as we will need to open a door to allow the integration of a plugin.
As this is impacting hundreds or even thousands of users, we are accessing if we have the bandwidth to do it in first place, what resources are necessary.
For sure a collaboration with Logitech would make total sense, but that is already above my knowledge for now.
I will keep everybody update as news are shared with me.
@Leonídia.Deezer ... thank you for your efforts in progressing this and keeping the community informed.

Hi Leonidia, ditto what t1no said.
Many thanks @Leonídia.Deezer
I am not really sure that our wish implies new security questions / issues.
Indeed, Deezer is used to communicate with different third party audio systems like Sonos, Bluesound…
Moreover If we focus on Squeezebox/Squeezelite players, currently and still for a few days to come, Deezer ‘communicates’ with the LMS “mysqueezebox.com” servers. So not sure that it will be so different with the wished plugin. And not really sure that what is wanted from Deezer is a plugin because it seems that the “community” has talented people able to develop a plugin (Michael Herger, Philippe44 on the slimdevices forum). What is probably more a necessity is what I summarized in the thread I wrote and which you forwarded to your product team (i.e. exhaustives and accessibles API).
Offering exhaustives and accessibles API will satisfy users :
- of third party audio systems (Sonos, Bluesound, Wiim, Heos, MusicCast...) because it will allow to benefit from the same level of functionalities as on the Smartphone/Tablet App.
- of Squeezebox / Squeezelite (allowing to use Raspberry Pi as a player for example) allowing them to continue to access to the Deezer service
For Deezer it’s a differentiator and a way to satisfy its customers and also to keep them.
Hi Cedzerosept,
I think what I can gather from your post is that LMS needs a new developed plugin that will work with Deezer as the present one will no longer work as the mysqueezebox server is closing down very soon.
I would imagine most Deezer subscribers that have a Raspberry Pi use LMS running picoreplayer as a means of accessing their Deezer account. I think this is the sticking point of creating a new API, it will still need authentication to gain access to your Deezer account hence the security issues. But I’m sure this can be overcome by the VERY clever people at Logitech.
I recently purchased a Wiim Pro which is a great bit of kit, Deezer works great on it but the app can’t be used on your PC if you run Linux…..I believe it will run on Windows but there is no app’s available as of yet.
I like to use my PC rather than use a mobile phone or a tablet to access these applications, but I appreciate I am probably in the minority on this one.
Cheers

I am precisely using a Raspberry with piCorePlayer.
PiCorePlayer is based on a very small Linux Distribution which is piCore Linux. It includes Squeezelite, a software that emulates a Squeezebox (Logitech's historical music player last sold more than 10 years ago). Squeezelite also exists for other plateform (PC for ex.).
Logitech Media Server (LMS) is the server software that powers networked audio players from Logitech (historical Squeezebox players) and also the emulated ones. You can install LMS on a NAS, a PC, a Raspberry at home. If you have for ex. a PC with music files and LMS installed on it (a local LMS) and squeezebox devices, you will be able to play the music files on your squeezebox and also access to on-line music services (configured on your local LMS). Logitech also runs on-line LMS (~ mysqueezebox.com), probably the only LMS available at the begining (you were buying Squeezebox devices and only using the on-line LMS), today used to access to on-line music services thar are not accessible via a local LMS (currently the case for Deezer).
And mysqueezebox.com currently communicates with Deezer to allow the squeezebox / Squeezelite users access to the Deezer service.
Logitech decided to stop running the mysqueezebox.com servers…
So the goal is to be able to access to the Deezer service via local LMS knowing that a community is maintaining the LMS software.
I am not sure that this implies new Deeze API.
It's perhaps a matter of authorizations from Deezer to access to the audio flows / the appropriated API from the local LMS. An expert would be able to confirm.
What I have understood is that the Public API only allow to access to metadata within an Internet brosser.
For People using third party audio system (Squeezebox, Wiim, Sonos, Bluesound, Heos, MusicCast...), you have seen that fonctionalities are really limited compared to what you have with the smartphone/tablet Deezer App. To get the same level of functionalities, it implies that Deezer develops a larger set of API. This is also what I am asking for.
And mysqueezebox.com currently communicates with Deezer to allow the squeezebox / Squeezelite users access to the Deezer service.

An updated and complete API would allow for common functionality between Android App, Web player, windows desktop app. Perhaps access to daily playlists and other features no currently accessible or available to LMS.
Can we just have equivalent service 1st? (noting that Logitech mysequeezbox.com shutdown is scheduled 19 March 2024) and then follow with the API allowing for broad functionality for access to all content?
Thanks. Let Deezer music keep playing on LMS post 19 March 2024 please?
We’ll probably see more People here after the 19th of march (shutdown of the mysqueezebox.com).
I'm sure that a number of concerned users don't express their opinion as long as everything's running smoothly.
Hi @Leonídia.Deezer,
thanks for engaging with Deezer Product Management. Assuming that Product Management takes decisions based on data, facts and assumptions that drive business value - here is a short proposal for such a model:
- > 100 users complained in these forums about the situation that there will be no more method to listen to Deezer via the Squeezebox ecosystem past the mysqueezbox.com shutdown in March
- Assumption that < 5% of affected users are aware of this forum and have taken the time to upvote on the issue
- Assumption that 50% of the affected users (Group A) would not benefit from a LMS plugin, because they would not run a local LMS (they would have to invest in new hardware in any case - let’s not consider them here). The remaining 50% of affected useres (Group would stay with Deezer (if a local LMS pluging becomes available) because they either already have a running local LMS or would be willing to set one up
- Assumption that close to 100% of Group B would switch to a different service (Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz, ...) if they can not get a running Deezer plugin solution
- Assumption that an average user brings 14 EUR revenue / month
Based on the above we would be looking at:
- ~ 2.000 total users affected with 50% (1.000) of them sticking to the Squeezebox ecosystem and switchting to a different service
- 14.000 EUR of monthly revenue lost to user churn → with yearly discount around 150.000 EUR per year reduced revenue
Based on that number above alone I could understand that Deezer is inactive, because it is a fraction of their revenue. However, the real number might turn out much higher:
- I might be grossly underestimating the affected users which will become clearer with user cancellations in March
- groups of users might motivate each other to move to another service together for the sake of being with the same service (I have tested Qobuz over the past month and except for the lack of a comparable feature like “Deezer Flow” I really like it). Already started talking with my Squeezebox / Deezer friends where we will move).
The implementation of a proper API, accessible to the Squeezebox community, would also allow for more modern integrations (both in Squeezebox and also other systems).
I really hope that Deezer Product Management invests sufficient time to support a local LMS plugin as I would clearly prefer to stay in the Deezer ecosystem!
Br,
Carsten
A Deezer plugin from the community is on the way: https://github.com/philippe44/lms-deezer/
And Deezer is back with proper playback info! What a Friday and way the start March! Great! Thanks to all who worked with this!
