My computer becomes noticeably slower when Deezer is running. It’s most noticeable when there’s already a fair amount of other apps running.

This is on a MacBook Air M1 computer.

Whilst the CPU usage isn’t anything extreme, it does often sit at around 12% for “Deezer Helper (Renderer)” is simply playing music in the background.

What is concerning is that when actively engaging with the app, CPU for that process readily jumps up to 40% +.

That seems high to me … for activities that I would think are fairly lite weight. I get less CPU usage from massive applications like Adobe apps, etc.

Here’s some examples:

After clicking on Explore

After clicking on Albums

After clicking on “Music”

After clicking on an Artists name, and brining up that artist’s page

Is this something Deezer developers are aware of?

Is Deezer optimised for M1 / silicon chips?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Amazing news. for those who need to update for mac you must remove version 6 and re-install it from the deezer app page.

Probably the next ask will be to make the app available in the App Store. I don’t like installing apps from websites, not to say that they are unsandboxed, which creates security concerns.

I would love to see this happen as well, in addition if they can implement some MFA/Passkey support. Hope to see progress in these soon.

Does anyone have a link to 7.0.1?

When ever I download it from the website (https://www.deezer.com/explore/en-us/download/) it downloads DeezerDesktop_6.0.290.

I wish I did! I spoke to support about this, they said they’re aware of it. My only option is using the web version at the moment.

So where did everyone else get it from?

From the Deezer web site, 7.0.20 was available until the last few days.  I believe the latest version should be 7.0.30 now, so something went badly wrong with a very outdated version appearing.

You can get the current Windows desktop version 7.0.31 in the MS Store:

Not sure if you can find the macOS version in the Apple App Store though:

App Store - Apple

The related Deezer support article only mentions the general download link which should recognise your OS and language automatically and offer the newest version then:

Download The Deezer App – Deezer Support

Download Deezer free | Get the mobile & desktop music app

@bluezzbastardzz  Unfortunately the Deezer desktop app is not available via the Mac App store, only on iOS.

The download links you provided again download an old version 6.0.29 which support have acknowledged as being wrong, and the same on all my Mac computers and different browsers. Not only is this an old version, but it is not even possible to open it.

It’s astonishing that Deezer lacks the ability to sort this out after quite a few days.

Not only is this an old version, but it is not even possible to open it.

This is the weird part, I asked a German Mac desktop user who could install the new 7.0.31 desktop version over their old 6.0.29 version which they had previously installed. So this seems to be the only way currently to get the 7.0.31 version on a Mac - if it works as it should.

Thanks @bluezzbastardzz . It is very weird…. It downloads as 6.0.29 and will not let me authenticate. I tried to open the app about 30 minutes later, and the version was 7.0.31 and I can get in again. Maybe it downloads in the background to the correct version?

Yes, it probably installs the newest version automatically in the background if everything works as planned. 😉
