How to disable ads/notifications?

I quit Spotify because they kept hounding me with ads, or as they like to call it, “suggestions” for godawful retarded shit I don’t want to see. The ads on Spotify couldn’t be disabled and I obviously felt cheated as I paid for a premium subscription so I wouldn’t have to see ads as popups or banner ads etc.

Now with Deezer Premium I randomly got a notification about some Disney (may a merciless God strike down everybody that works for that company) album that I have shown zero interest in and never heard of before.

Is it possible to disable ads completely and permanently or should I just quit Deezer within my first week of using it and give another platform a try?

Hello there @dandj

What you have attached is a screenshot of a notification, not an advertisement.

Depending on your notification preferences, deezer can let you know about new albums or tracks from artists that you follow or have played, or similar artists.

If you wish to change those notifications settings, go into your account and make your notification selections. I've attached a screenshot of the web page where you would do that.

Cheers

I think these in-app notifications of new releases with the bell icon in the upper right corner cannot be disabled on the Notifications Preferences page. You can only choose between mobile push notifications, email, and text messages, but not in-app notifications.

That bell was once intended to only show artists that you actively follow which never worked for me. I also get notifications about new releases from artists that I do not follow, know or like and have mentioned this from the start to staff, but nothing happened.

So I can understand the original poster’s wish to disable them in a way. Maybe classical pianist Lang Lang (or the original song by Lin-Manuel Miranda) is at least related to their musical taste, as this might have been the reason to recommend that soundtrack.

I think there is no related forum idea yet for disabling or at least improve these bell notifications, so they could create one, or a community manager can change this thread to a new idea.

As a test I have disabled all notifications on that page now, because I still had email notifications enabled for all listed options. Maybe that will indirectly also change the notifications via bell icon in the app “within 48 hours”, as the message said.

The idea would be to hide the bell completely.

Alternatively, you can ignore the bell.

Another possible option could be adding the “angry face” icon in the bell notifications that Deezer uses elsewhere to exclude tracks, albums or artists from recommendations. Currently you can only hover them in the dropdown list with your mouse to make the notification go away.

Stop giving me these ads or give me a refund and cancel my membership. This shit is the sole reason I quit Spotify, which by the way is much more user friendly and there’s no difference between FLAC and 320kbps unless you’re literally autistic and spend tens of thousands on equipments and cables.

And before some smart ass tells me these ArE NoTiFiCaTiOnS you’re a fucking idiot and should try critical thinking before whiteknighting a faceless corporation that’s charging you for an ad-free experience only to shove ads in your face anyways.

these have been my settings since the I first made this thread and I still get ads for random garbage I never heard of and wish I would have never been forced to learn about through these ads
