Has Deezer finally given up on their playlists?

Is it actually normal that half of Deezer’s playlists haven't changed in years? Playlists like Indie Disco or Feel Good Alternative are supposed to be updated weekly, but in reality, they’re just full of the same hits from 5–7 years ago. Where are the updates?

It feels like Deezer and its curators have finally just stopped trying. Back when I started using Deezer in 2018, their playlists were one of my main sources for discovering new music, and it was cool. In general, I think Deezer has lost its curation vibe and has fallen way behind Spotify. It’s a real shame.

P.S. Don't get me started on the lack of any exclusive content, like those cover compilations they used to have—that’s a whole other topic. But honestly, I wonder what the Deezer team has been doing all year besides 'fighting AI,' which they kept releasing pompous press releases about.

Hi @Amzan 👋

Can you send us the URLs of some playlists that you are mentioning to check them out, please?

Thanks!

Hello, Alfredo!

Actually, there are many such playlists, but here are the specific ones I was referring to:

1. Indie Disco (https://www.deezer.com/playlist/1311460845) If you believe the description, this playlist was updated four weeks ago. However, these are fake updates. For example, the track “Agitations tropicale” by L'Impératrice was supposedly uploaded in October 2025. But that’s not exactly true; it was simply re-uploaded to the playlist. In reality, it hasn't left this list for over four years. I can say this with confidence because I had this playlist in my favorites for a long time and only recently removed it. It became unbearable to listen to the same songs for so many years. It feels like time has stopped forever for this playlist's editor, who is still listening to old releases by L'Impératrice, Parcels, Jungle, etc. I’m not against Indie Disco classics, but it would be nice if the playlist were a) actually updated, and b) mixed with at least some new releases.

2. Feel Good Alternative (https://www.deezer.com/playlist/1311460845) The same situation applies here. It was allegedly last updated at the end of January with Mura Masa's track “Live Like We're Dancing,” which also hasn't left this playlist for the last five years. If we were to judge by this editor's taste, then Tame Impala, Arlo Parks, Metronomy, and the rest haven't had any new releases in the last 4–5 years. This playlist also consists entirely of old material that doesn't rotate or change for years.

Why this matters Despite all my love for electronic indie and alternative music, it is impossible for me to listen to these tracks over and over again. That is exactly why I removed these and many other playlists—they are stuck in a time loop. I always thought that curated and editorial playlists were supposed to discover new heroes and a new atmosphere, rather than creating a simulation of updates by re-uploading the same old tracks.

Thank you for paying attention to my post.
