Gapless Playback on desktop app

To reiterate:

“Gapless playback” is when certain tracks within an album have no pause between them when one track ends and the next one starts. Some music genres like prog and electronic stuff rely heavily on this feature and mix their albums as one continuous track, and it is instrumental (no pun intended) for proper listening experience. For examples try Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon or Colors by Between the Buried and Me. This is not the same thing as crossfade as some people on forums suggest as an alternative. The lack of this basic feature means that the app is unusable for people who lean heavily into genres utilizing this technique, they cannot listen to their favorite albums on your platform as the lack of gapless breaks the experience. And since desktop app might be the go-to way to experience Deezer on a stationary device, your business loses a swathe of customers.

Now the problem is that Deezer has Gapless on Android, iOS and in web player, but still does not have one in their windows app. Not sure about other desktop systems but here we are. Some time ago someone mentioned that Deezer desktop app is on life support and the company is ditching it but now we have a full redesign of the platform and a new updated desktop app. Still no goddamn gapless playback.

Ideas thread with 6 years worth of comments and upvotes is ignored, no updates on the feature whatsoever. There are workarounds to get gapless on desktop but that’s doing hoops to get what everyone considers to be the basic music player functionality. Even web player, which is pretty much a copy of desktop app in terms of UI has gapless but not the damn app.

It makes me unreasonably mad and I am probably a clown for making such a long ramble of a post, but I want to hijack the increased forum activity due to the redesign releaseand just try to get some attention from Deezer staff. At least tell me that you won’t work on it so I can stop reinstalling the app every month to see if you finally made it.

Lol, another year rolls by and still no gapless on desktop app. By this point it’s a bit silly even 🤡

I just dropped Spotify for this service and finding out this is not a feature in the desktop app not being a option is very very disappointing and actually has me possibly looking for another service.

I’ve also dropped Spotify for Deezer and I’m going to have a hard time recommending this service to friends if there isn’t any real update about this feature *soon*.
I just don’t understand how this isn’t available yet to all.

What’s the purpose of a desktop app if it cannot play songs correctly?

Could we have an update on this?

I understand your frustration but there’s no ETA right now.

Even if it’s just the issue with desktop app, it’s still totally unacceptable, especially like OP says, years after users raised their voices.

I guess not very many people listen to Beethoven on Deezer. How can anyone with musical sensibility think it’s OK to insert a pause between the third and fourth movements of the 5th symphony and leave it like that for years? I have recently ditched Spotify for King Gizzard but might head right back to Spotify for Beethoven soon.

By the way, what they do on the browser version is not gapless playback either. It sounds like it compared to the desktop version but the trick is really obvious when you listen to Beethoven’s 5th for example.

I really need to put my support in this. I’ve really liked the app in my trail so far and I’m desperately looking for a music service that isn’t Spotify. I’ve tried Qobuz, Tidal & now Deezer, and Deezer is my favorite out of these, but the fact it isn’t gapless playback is beyond rough. Hail The Sun’s album Divine Inner Tension has an absurdly beautiful transition between tracks 7 and 8 and it is absolutely OBLITERATED w/o gapless.

After the update today, I haven’t explored it entirely but the gapless between the tracks i mentioned is fixed on the desktop app which is huge. Thank you for this.

Well I be damned - gapless is indeed here. Tested it out on a few fav albums and it is there.

Take my money! Reinstated my subscription, transferred the stuff from spotify. We are so back.

HUGE thank you to the people involved!
