APIs to enable 3rd party apps? NDK not available, Javascript SDK not working

Hei folks! I have since moved over to another streaming service which kind of works on SailfishOS based on librespot (reverse engineer I would guess).

I would really like to be back on Deezer.

Any update on an NDK/SDK or API to allow playback?

I’m really disappointed to hear that not only does it seem like the playback API will never be resurrected, but also that there hasn’t even been any update on this.

I’ve been using Deezer since 2012 and have touted it as great to other people. I love that it has a decent royalty model, that it has loss-less playback, that it still has a mediocre API to manage playlists (which I still use regularly!) and I love that it’s not Spotify. I’m a fan of not always supporting the biggest company, if possible.

However, there are so many features that have been suggested on here that are seemingly ignored and don’t get any traction. And I wait months//years and just don’t expect any community-suggested features to ever see the light of day.

This is why the Playback API is so important. If you’re not going to make the features yourself, let us do it for you! We want to! For free! But we can’t. And we could do it on Spotify because they have an extensive API.

I think it’s imperative that you allow the community to help out. Otherwise, I’m sad to say that I might need to switch from Deezer to Spotify so I can write what I want and share it with everyone.

I really hope I at least get a response here, or I think I might make the switch in April 2025.

I was consdering comming back from Spotify, but it’s really kind of a bummer news, especially with so many messages requesting this more “open” features :/

There is again some talk and wishes for a native SailfishOS app, or a third party app using the Deezer API. I was sad to find this old thread that basically statest “Thank you, but not planned.” I really hope that now that European alternative software is gaining (at least) media attention, that this request would be revisited an evaluated.
