Airplay 1 vs Airplay 2

Recent commentary on Darko dot com about Airplay 1 vs Airplay 2 and lossless playback. If I read the article correctly, users that notice a drop in quality from lossless or CD to lossy might prefer to stay in the Airplay 1 environment for now? In my system when I do an A/B test, or as close as I can get to it, the difference in quality is very noticeable and is one if the reasons I prefer the CD quality offered on Deezer, as compared to certain other streaming services, specifically for me Spotify and Sirius/XM. Conversely when I stream music over the KEF Connect app via WiFi rather than Airplay the quality of music seems incrementally better.
