Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the topic dedicated to all problems you may face when using our desktop and web apps, big or small.

What should I post here?

  • if the app is acting in an unusual way, when you click on the menus and buttons, for example
  • if the player is displaying error messages, or if the playback is interrupted, let us know
  • if you're unable to login, or if the app kicks you out, we need to be aware too
  • if it simply crashes on you, when you connect or not to a device, it's better to leave a comment
  • if you have tips or workarounds to share, they'll be very welcome too

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version of Deezer :floppy_disk:

Hi @Alfredo.Deezer @Antje W.  as Jaime is absent, can you help @jirikovoego. Thanks

Hi @José.Deezer,

I have the same issue on my MacBook with Deezer:

And I’m running 7.0.40

Hello @awesomemac @nwaage thanks for sharing. I have reported this today, but probably only Monday or Tuesday I will get some feedback. Thanks

I can confirm the sync is back again.

Hi guys, I’m not happy with the solution you provided. Here’s my user case:

I work all day on Windows 11 using Deezer desktop app. When I’m done, I simply close the laptop lid, putting Windows into sleep mode, and switch to my iPhone. The sync queue works perfectly.

Later, when I reopen my laptop, all the apps (including Deezer) wake up. Unfortunately, Deezer’s queue get stuck on the track I was listening to when I closed the laptop. The Only way to refresh is completely close the Deezer app (which can't be done using the close button) and run again. Very frustrating!

In the past, the queue used to update automatically.
Let me know if you’d like any further refinements!

Hey @jirikovoego 👋

I asked my Superusers to perform this action but everything it’s OK on their side

Have you tried to update the desktop app to the latest version?

https://www.deezer.com/explore/en-us/download/

If so, you can also try to delete the cache on the desktop app

I hope that helps 🙌

I’m using latest version from Windows Store. Tried even to reinstall, but no change.

Hi @José.Deezer,

I have the same issue on my MacBook with Deezer:

And I’m running 7.0.40

Fix for Deezer’s “Restart Now” bug on Mac (no need to downgrade or wait for a patch) : r/deezer

You have to unzip the downloaded package on your macOS computer, manually delete the old Deezer desktop app and copy the new 7.0.60 version into its place.

Not THE solution, but a solution it is 🙂 Thank you

Bear in mind the following  if you are using a Windows PC and don’t have unlimited data -

I was using Deezer 7.0.1. Not sure when I last updated it, not sure what the previous version was, but for the last few months I have been wondering why I was hitting my data limits consistently before the end of the month.

95% of the music I listen to is in my favourites which I downloaded many many months back.

But when I checked in windows - performance monitor - network - while listening to my favourites it showed that there was approx 1MB/sec being received by Deezer!

Same thing when I listened to an album I had not downloaded (over and over again). So the smart cache is obviously not working. When I go to File - preferences - more - app preferences - it says smart cache 0 bytes, downloads 0 bytes, Available 72.21GB. The only option in here is ‘clear all’.

I upgraded to ver 7.0.60, and this doesn’t seem to have fixed it.

I guess I have to download all my favourites all over again and accept that smart cache will only work on Mobile? If this is the case, I would better using the web version of the player instead of the windows app?

Hello @jordanmcclements while I bring this to concerned team, have you tried to turn your PC offline and listen to your favourites? Does it work? Thanks

I don’t think it has ever worked when my internet has been down. Trying now - no when I go to the favourites tab it says “You seem to be offline’…etc. etc..’check out downloads’ (of which I only have one very recently downloaded album even though I downloaded all my favourites many months back, maybe a year ago, and there is a folder C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\deezer-desktop\IndexedDB with about 4GB of .ldb files in it ?)

Thanks.

Only the albums and playlists downloaded in the Downloaded tab with a green dot for every track can be played without internet connection, and there is no button or option to disconnect from the internet in the desktop app. You have to use the Windows network settings and the Status window where you can disable the ethernet connection. Then the album artwork will not be visible anymore in the play queue, but the downloaded files will still play, and the audio quality is also shown.

Hello @nwaage @bluezzbastardzz @awesomemac we have just released for Mac users version 7.0.62 that should solve the issue regarding the banner

The only catch is for any user that has downloaded the version 7.0.61, which we just roll-out for 10 minutes to test the auto-update. We believe, no user is on that version, but if it is, it will require a manual update to version 7.0.62.

For that, you can use this link - https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download/artifact-darwin-x64-7.0.62

Hi @jordanmcclements, for me, is the same as for @bluezzbastardzz. After I disable Wi-Fi and my PC is offline, I can listen to my downloaded content. Please have a look to this short video I just made - https://youtu.be/adK6Qk0ZXUs

Please share a video of your experience. Thanks

Hi @José.Deezer

Thanks for letting us know about the banner, I was going to write about it. The issue was there with 7.0.50 and I had to look into the caches folder in ~Library to find the newer version (7.0.60 then) manually.

By the way, 7.0.50 is still the version offered when downloading from deezer.com/download (at least on macOS).

It is working for me on downloaded files when I am offline, thanks.

My main questions still are -

Does smart cache work on the Windows Desktop version of Deezer? (It looks to me like it does not).

Do I have to manually download every single favourite track again? (I have approx. 4GB of files in my cache but none of my favourites are in downloads even though they were in August 2024).

Is there a way to get Deezer to check / import these cached files again?

Where can I change the cache settings  on the Windows Desktop version of Deezer?

Will I have to manually download every single favourite track again when I upgrade to a newer version of Deezer?

Thanks!

Please have a look to this short video I just made - https://youtu.be/adK6Qk0ZXUs

It seems to be private, so cannot be opened.

@jordanmcclements I think the big cache size shown in the desktop app is not filled with your previously downloaded files, but with temporary files that Deezer needs to work properly e.g. for caching your recent tracks, not sure. The previous downloads get deleted if you install a new version by removing/deleting the old version first.

Hello folks, regarding some complaints on this thread about a crash when moving Deezer app between screens when users have Windows 11 installed.

Seems that this crash could be related to this option “AERO SHAKE” being disabled. If you have this issue, can you check that option and turn ON. Please let us know if the issue stills occurs. Thanks

The shake feature is turned on, but I’m not able move Deezer app to extended screen at all!

Is there anyone who can make the desktop app work at least until the end of the year? Then my subscription will be expired, and I will leave. Just because I’m sick and tired from promises about desktop one.

Hi,

I mainly use the desktop app (Windows 10), and occasionally the mobile app. I had this issue 1-2 months ago, and it’s back again:

The play queue is rearranged every time the PC starts. The song “currently playing” is different, the songs in the queue before and after it are in different order than they were when I shut down the PC. The songs I added to the queue might be where they’re supposed to be, but not all of them. If I recall correctly, last time this issue popped up, it then showed up on the mobile app as well, but I haven’t had a chance to test it again yet.

Both times this has happened, I had listened to music from the mobile app beforehand. I didn’t notice this issue on the mobile app the latest time I’ve used it, at least this time, the issue reemerged when I used the desktop app after using the mobile app.

I have installed the latest versions of both apps (desktop app after this issue reemerged), and the issue still persists. Last time, I uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop app, and that seemed to solve the issue. However, if I have to do that every time I use the mobile app, that’s just ridiculous.

The issue is small but infuriating. When I listen to music, I want the playlist to continue from where I left it.

I am really, really fed up with the Windows app now.

After I removed the old version and installed the latest version, and downloaded some albums, a few days later they have all disappeared from ‘downloads’. I haven’t reinstalled anything since I downloaded them. I haven’t even logged out of Deezer since I downloaded them.

Also, you know how every Windows app should allow you to select a list of items using the Shift key (so you don't have to manually select hundreds of different tracks)? Doesn’t work.

Want to download a selection of your favourites (because deezer randomly removed them form your downloads and didn’t tell you)? You can’t. (Without first adding them to a playlist)

Want to download single tracks? You can’t.

Want to be sure that all your downloads do not randomly disappear? You can’t.

Want to be sure smart cache works as intended so you don’t use loads of data? You can’t.

I guess we all just have to accept that if you are not using a mobile app nowadays then you are not a priority.

I am actually considering moving to Spotify now.

Sorry. Rant over.

Yeah! The desktop app is the reason I’m considering leaving Deezer. I’m fed up with promises about huge investments into the desktop version from Deezer’s representatives. It has been taking years, and it seems like the desktop app is a necessary evil, with the main goal being to abandon it as soon as possible.

Just pull slowly Deezer’s Windows and application crash. Very annoying.

App was reinstalled, no change. If there are some logs, just hit me. I’d provide it.
