At 83, Paul McCartney is still making music with the energy and curiosity of someone half his age. His new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, feels less like a farewell and more like a joyful trip back to the Liverpool streets where it all began.

The Boys of Dungeon Lane  - named after a real street in Speke, Liverpool, where both McCartney and George Harrison grew up- is warm, personal, and full of life. Rather than looking back with sadness or nostalgia, McCartney revisits his past with wonder, turning old memories into joyful, melodic rock songs.

The album opens softly before exploding into crashing drums and snarling guitars less than a minute later, a reminder that McCartney still knows exactly how to surprise listeners. One standout track, “Home to Us,” captures the heart of the record: reflective, emotional, but never heavy-handed.

Sir Paul plays nearly every instrument himself, and the sound leans more toward the adventurous spirit of Wings than Beatles nostalgia, packed with huge melodies, key changes, and playful energy.

Co-produced by Andrew Watt, the album feels raw and alive in the best way. Chrissie Hynde and Charlene Spiteri add harmonies throughout, while Giles Martin co-created the orchestration for the closing track.

What makes The Boys of Dungeon Lane special isn’t just that McCartney can still write great songs. It’s that he still sounds inspired. More than 60 years into his career, he’s still making music because he genuinely loves it, and you can hear that in every note.

You can only have the utmost respect for Sir Paul McCartney, that after all these years, and at his age, he still absolutely rocks.
