Ariana Grande's petal Is Finally Here 🌸

She said she would need "an extra brain and four more arms" to release a new album this summer. She did it anyway. Today, the world finally gets to hear “petal”
 

It started with a flower emoji quietly placed in her Instagram bio back in March. No caption, no announcement, no explanation. Just a petal. And the internet collectively lost its mind.

Today, we finally understand what it meant. petal, Ariana Grande's eighth studio album, is officially out now.

What makes this release extraordinary is the context. She had just finished the Wicked: For Good era. She was already deep into her Eternal Sunshine arena tour. Her makeup brand R.E.M. Beauty was in full swing. A new Meet the Parents film was on the horizon. By any reasonable measure, a new album should have been impossible.

In her own words, Ariana described the album as being about "growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging”. She calls it "something that is full of life."

That metaphor is everything. A petal does not force its way through. It finds the light in the smallest openings. If Eternal Sunshine was about moving forward, petal is about what it cost her to get there, and what bloomed on the other side.

All 12 tracks are stylized in lowercase, an intimate and deliberate artistic choice.

"hate that i made you love me" arrived in May and it was an immediate statement. Produced by the legendary Max Martin alongside Ariana and her longtime collaborator ILYA, the track set the emotional tone for everything that followed.

Ariana described it as:

"one of my favorite songs i'll ever write. i simply cannot wait for it to be yours."
 

petal was co-executive produced and co-written with ILYA, who has been at Ariana's side since Sweetener in 2018. The album is released through Babydoll Music, Ariana's own imprint label, in partnership with Republic Records.
