I have both the Sonos app and Deezer (premium). I open Sonos app, press on the Deezer icon, I log in my account and give permission. I am then told to go back to sonos and play deezer. It is not connecting to sonos, just playing on my phone. When I look at connected devices the Sonos is not showing.

I might be wrong, but it looks like that you are trying to use Deezer Connect and want to play your music while using Deezer.
You can’t use Deezer to stream music to your Sonos speakers. You have to use the Sonos app.
Because you wrote that the music plays on your phone and not Sonos, that’s why I think that you are trying to use Deezer Connect.
