Music not being downloaded

Recently got a new phone so the first thing I did was rip through the list of favourite albums to download so I can listen offline if needed. This was about 3 weeks ago now.

Today I was browsing my album list but noticed the download icon was gray, and checking the list only half of the music I selected had been downloaded. I have also verified this by selecting listen offline where I wad unable to listen to this music.

Why is so much music failing to download? No error messages were seen. App has been restarted, cache cleared, phone restarted etc.

Using Android 14 with the latest Deezer beta version. Phone has plenty of storage (400+GB free space).

Getting pretty fed up with all these issues now, on the verge of cancelling and signing up with Tidal...

Hi @ferg8 I am sorry to hear that.

Have you tried to download them again.

Could you please share a screenshot showing the download icon (grey).

Thanks

Yeah, I've just had to delete all my music, then remove and reinstall the app.

This is a major hassle when I had so much downloaded music.

Now getting my music back is made into a massive chore as I have the issue where I keep getting sent back to the top of the list when browsing my favourite albums, this issue is covered on another thread!!

I also see an issue where an album will stop downloading half way through, I then have to remove from downloads and then re-add it.

Looks like it's gonna take all week to restore my music 🤬

Download stops halfway though, then I need to remove from downloads and re-add it.

Having to do this several times just to download a single album!

I don't think I'll get to replace all 350 downloaded albums before I give up, cancel my HiFi subscription and head over to Tidal

Hi @ferg8, sorry to hear that you're having trouble downloading your albums on your phone.

I just tried a workaround that worked for me. I selected my favorites and three playlists to download, waited until everything was downloaded. Even though the app was indicating that the download wasn't finished, I closed the app completely (including in the background) and upon restarting, everything was perfect.

Another tip that often helps is to switch the Deezer app to offline mode, then switch it back on. This can prompt the app to resume your downloads.

If none of these procedures solve the issue, could you please provide the following details:

  • What is the brand and model of the device you are using?
  • What is the version of the operating system (Android, iOS, Windows, or Mac) installed on your device?
  • What is the version of the Deezer app installed on your device?

Additionally, please share a screenshot of the Data and Storage settings within the Deezer app.

Thanks for the info. It's actually quicker to remove and re-add as I don't have to leave the album page whilst offline mode requires me to go into settings.

The issue is still there, this is after deleting everything and starting over. I also tried to leave the beta program but don't think that happened as the version is still 8.0.7.16.

Phone is OnePlus 12, running android 14 with all the latest updates installed…

Wow Deezer, what's the point of this forum when you dont respond to your customers?

Do you want a screenshot of me closing my account, and another one of me signing up with one of your competitors????

🤬🤬🤔🤔🤔

I can honestly say that Deezer support is full of crap.  I’ve been complaining about this issue for months and still it isn’t resolved.  I’ve done everything they’ve told you to do and they supposedly cleared all my devices in order to clear my device history and to fix the issue.  As of today this issue is still here.  Although Qobuz library is missing  quite a few artist at least the download feature worked.  If Tidal still had the yearly plan through Best Buy I would’ve returned to them because their library is pretty much the same as Deezers.  In my opinion Deezer does not seem to care that their app has issues.  I can’t say  with certainty that these issued started before or after the big heart update but it’s shameful that it has not been resolved.  This is a complete pain in the ass.

Yeah, I don't want a purple heart icon, just an app that works!

I'm counting down the days, as Tidal are reducing their pricing next month. They will match Spotify pricing, and their offering includes proper hi-res and Dolby Atmos.

So, now I will get more for less, and also access to a support team that will actually respond to you!!!

I've been paying about £180 annually for over 6 years, but it looks like Deezer just don't care, so goodnight Deezer!

I've had this issue too.  Super annoying when about to go on a flight and find music isn't there.  About to spend a few days off WiFi recently and again downloads stop part way through.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling app, which helped some, but not completely.

I moved to  paid Deezer from paid Spotify, but now questioning the move.   I need offline and the product is a fail in that regard.

Android 14 on a Samsung S22u, with tons of storage.

Having exactly the same problem, not long changed phone and tablet now albums that were fully downloaded on old devices are missing tracks, also all my albums are now not in alphabetical order as they were, absolute pain in the a*** . Using app version 8.0.33.3 on both Google pixel tablet and Google pixel 9 pro

+1

New to the app and very frustrated by this issue. Still in trial mode so thinking of moving to another app that respects artists better than Spotify ….

hey there @Rodrigue Ndangwituze

I typically only download a couple albums as a backup plan for dead spots, so I may not be the norm (although I find the OP’s downloading of 350 albums to be nothing short of wild, and I can’t think of a single use case for that to be necessary).

That said, I have had the “half the playlist showing as downloaded” issue crop up from time to time, and I’ve found that the solution Leonidia presented above (specifically just closing the app and restarting after downloading my music) works for me. It’s obviously not ideal, but I feel like it’s a minor inconvenience at most.

Also, it’s not just artists that deezer shows more respect for, it’s music itself.

Hey @GropplerZorn , thanks for your feedback. I already tested different tips including yours and it works for some tracks in the same playlist, not for others. Totally random. This is really not serious from Deezer as I can see the issue exists since more than a year! I’m not trying to get my complete collection offline but only some playlists that I like to have on plane.

Shame.

I’ve had this recently too.
I had enough space on my phone, but I removed a fair few collections from Downloads and tried again. No luck. So reinstalled the app. Tried to download a couple of albums/playlists and I get the green arrow for 2 or 3 tracks, and that’s it.
I like to download things so I don’t have to use data, so this is a major issue for me.

Help, Deezer??

I am too getting this error. Download just stops midway everytime. Tried wifi, mobile data, clearing app data, deleting and restarting downloads, reinstalling. Samsung S22+ android 15.

This app has serious problems, deezer doesn't care. It says don't use it if you're not happy. I can't download music and I always get the same standard answers.

I was able to workaround the download issue if I restart my phone and set my phone display for 30 mins to keep the deezer app opened. Downloads seem to work, but if I add a song to any downloaded playlist it wont download. I've removed the download tag and redownloaded the playlist with the new songs but those song will not download. This app is a pos and its obvious Deezer does not read these posts (there are several copy posts of this issue in their own forums). I’ve spent so much time in the mobile app and on the pc software with issues that if I cant get their stuff to stop bugging out on me I’ll move at the end of the subscription.

@northernskylistens by all means, feel free to be as cynical as you like, but there are three responses in this thread alone from Deezer Community Managers and two from a Deezer Legend.

The suggestion I will make to you, when trying to add songs to your downloads, is to make sure you have favorited them first.

If it doesn't work out for you with deezer, thanks for giving it a try, and good luck wherever you end up.

Hello @GropplerZorn - Thanks for the response. Many songs that were favorited were not downloaded so I did try that too. I did notice that if I sat there for 10 minutes eventually the download might catch and start downloading, but if I added new songs to the playlist those will not download. Sorry for my cynical attitude but I was really frustrated with that app not doing things it was supposed to do despite my troubleshooting and despite trying things so many people with the same issues tried.

I've just had a new phone and experienced the same issue i.e. after selecting to download the entirety of my 990 favourited songs some went green (downloaded) and some stayed grey. I've managed to fix it this morning and get them all green after reading this thread and this is what I did:

Opened the app, tapped on Favourites, scrolled down and tapped Downloaded Music. Here it shows playlists and the only one that appears for me is Favourite Tracks. It had a green bar underneath about three quarters towards the end so I guess it had already started downloading them but stopped for some reason (likely due to the amount of songs or losing WiFi signal). I went back and forth a bit between Favourite Tracks and then back to Downloaded Music and it started downloading again. I went back to my phone home screen and tap held on Deezer, went on the App info and could see the storage used go up massively.

So I guess it struggles to download lots of tracks all in one go so it's likely you need to force it to start the download again (by doing the above that worked for me). Not ideal for sure but atleast it's possible to fix it.

Hey Mike,

I’ve have tried everything I can think of you get my playlist to download. I also tried that you did but it just still wont download. Since my last post I have upgraded to a pixel 10 pro from a 7 pro and I was hoping that would fix it. I really like Deezer but this is killing me. The only way I can get downloads to start or continue a playlist download is to reboot my phone and I have to keep the deezer app opened otherwise it stops. I also am now using the beta version of deezer on my phone but still having download issues. At this point I don’t think its my phone or me but its the app just having issues. I’ve opened tickets with them but its always the same things to try. So I am hoping the Deezer community can help me get this working.

One other thing - If I add a new song to a downloaded playlist it will not download and I dont know how to get that working…
