Question

Low-resolution album artwork in Android notification player and widgets (Samsung One UI)

Hello Deezer Team,

I would like to report an ongoing issue regarding the album art quality displayed in the system media controller (notification shade, lock screen, and home screen widgets) on Android devices.

Issue Description:

While album artwork inside the main Deezer app looks perfectly sharp, the image provided to the system media player (MediaSession API) is delivered in a very low resolution. When Samsung's One UI scales this thumbnail to fit the lock screen or widget layout, the art becomes heavily pixelated and blurry.

Steps to reproduce:

Play any track in the Deezer Android app.

Open the Android notification panel, check the lock screen, or add the standard media widget to the home screen.

Observe the low-resolution / pixelated album cover art compared to other streaming apps.

Device & App Details:

Device: Samsung Galaxy S24 fe

OS Version: Android 16 (and 17 also) / One UI 8 (and 9 also)

Deezer App Version: Latest available build

Troubleshooting already performed:

I have already tried clearing the cache, disabling battery optimization, and performing a clean reinstallation of the app. Since the issue persists, it seems that the app is passing a low-res bitmap stream to the Android MediaSession metadata.

Could you please review how album art metadata is passed to MediaMetadataCompat and consider providing higher-resolution bitmaps for system UI integration?

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Max
