Hi,

A topic was brought to light about basic streaming being very demanding on data usage.

I listened 26 songs to have deezer using almost 700MB of data using basic quality. Then I tried Youtube Music and 15 songs later it didnt even reached 100MB. Then I stumbled across this thread on Deezer community that was posted and acknowledged 8 months ago.

When will this be fixed? There's no reason why the qualities are swapped like that and not fixed yet. I haven't made the test yet, but I will change it to standard to see if there's any difference... And maybe one day I will be suprised that my data usage will be higher than usual because the qualities will finally be fixed...

This is a major issue that's been trailing over the years, (other threads I found from 2 years ago had the same issue) how is this still an issue today?

I haven’t noticed this yet, but I didn’t look for it before.

Couldn’t it be because YTM has a lower setting?

Deezer basic 320 kb/s
YTM Premium 256 kb/s
YTM Free 128 kb/s

I highly doubt that basic is truely 320 kb/s if YTM Premium is 256kb/s. I did listened more than 40 songs with YTM within one day and it only has used 165mb in total… versus Deezer only 26 songs got me using 4 times that amount of data. Right now I’m listening to some deezer on Standard quality, and 6 songs later I’ve only used 2 mb of data… and they are the same songs I listened to yesterday.

YouTube Music uses different codecs, AAC & OPUS.

 deezer’s lossy formats are MP3.

also, here are the bitrates for the various deezer audio quality tiers.

I think one of the main reasons why this issue isn’t more prominent is that deezer offers so many choices for low data streaming, and so many people are on unlimited plans nowadays.

Best of luck sorting it out.

I understand there are many different options for quality of audio, but in my country we don’t have any plans for unlimited data for phones… as per this year, the providers just upgraded from 2-10GB/month to 50-100GB/month.

Last month I still had 10GB and within the first week I almost busted my data plan by listening to Deezer online to make a change. To my surprise it probably used the highest quality of audio. As of today I listened to 35 songs to only have used 47MB of data using Standard quality vs Basic quality up to 700MB of data for only 26 songs yesterday… That does not make any sense… whoever uses the quality he thinks he is using is probably unaware that it is not the right quality he’s listening too.

I might be ranting about the data usage here, but anyone who’s using the app for audio quality might not even using the right quality they selected. Anyone else who is using Deezer for the first time and finds out their data plan are going through the roof because of this app, they might just won’t even bother looking into it on the forums and just change music streaming providers.
